Duke Basketball Overseas -- part 55 of a season long series

On Monday, Daniel Ewing and Paris-Levallois finished the regular season in France at Limoges, struggling to a 72-55 loss and falling to fifth place.  Daniel had 3 points and 7 assists in 27 minutes.  In the win, ex-Virginia player J.R. Reynolds had 13 points and ex-Pepperdine player Alex Acker had 10 points and 7 rebounds.

On Wednesday, David McClure and Siauliai needed to win Game 2 of the quarterfinals to extend their season against his former team Neptunas and they did just that with a commanding 95-66 win at home.  David had 5 points in 23 minutes.  Travis Leslie had 19 points and 8 rebounds, Bambale Osby had 13 points and 6 rebounds, Vytautas Sulskis had 13 points, and Chris Cooper had 12 points.

Nolan Smith and Cedevita Zagreb won another domestic league game by beating Kvarner 107-75.  Nolan had 6 points in 24 minutes.

DeMarcus Nelson and Red Star Belgrade beat Metalac 85-66.  DeMarcus had 7 points in 19 minutes before fouling out.

On Thursday, Nick Horvath was still not available as the Manawatu Jets lost 99-89 to the Wellington Saints after a poor second half.  Brandon Jenkins had 22 points and 10 rebounds, Paul Jones had 13 points, and Jeremiah Trueman had 10 points and 6 rebounds.  In the win, ex-NAIA player Corey Webster had 33 points, ex-DII player Ernest Scott had 15 points and 7 rebounds, and ex-Stephen F. Austin player Dion Prewster had 11 points.

On Friday, Marty Pocius and Zalgiris Kaunas started the semifinals in Lithuania against Lietuvos Rytas in what usually would be the championship matchup.  Despite leading for large portions of the game, the team fell behind late and could not recover, losing 90-85 and missing an opportunity to steal the first game on the road.  Marty had 10 points in 26 minutes.  Justin Dentmon had 13 points and Robertas Javtokas had 12 points and 6 rebounds.  In the win, ex-Wake Forest player Darius Songaila had 28 points and 6 rebounds and Renaldas Seibutis, the 50th pick of the Dallas Mavericks in 2007, had 15 points.

Kathleen Scheer and the Hobart Chargers overcame other distractions to record another win, using a strong start to beat the Ballarat Rush 72-66.  Kathleen had 19 points and 8 rebounds in 37 minutes.  Klara Wischer had 18 points and 14 rebounds and Izzy Chilcott had 15 points, 12 rebounds, and 7 assists.  Another ex-San Diego player had a good game as Nya Mason had 19 points and 15 rebounds in the loss.

On Saturday, DeMarcus Nelson and Red Star Belgrade were surprised to find themselves in overtime against Borac, in part due to his poor free throw shooting, but they did prevail 78-70,  DeMarcus finished with 11 points in 38 minutes.

Nolan Smith and Cedevita Zagreb recorded a key win against Cibona Zagreb, jumping out to a lead early to finish with a 91-72 final margin and putting themselves in optimal position to capture the top seed for the playoffs.  Nolan had 18 points and 6 rebounds in 23 minutes.  Goran Suton had 19 points.

Jess Foley and the Norwood Flames won another game although things were a little closer as they beat the Woodville Warriors 67-49.  Jess had 13 points in 26 minutes.  Amy Lewis had 10 points and 8 rebounds.  In the loss, ex-Michigan player Carmen Reynolds had 20 points and 8 rebounds.

On Sunday, the Manawatu Jets hoped to play their last game without Nick Horvath as they faced the Waikato Pistons and seeing a second half comeback slip away in a 73-72 loss.  Jeremiah Trueman had 19 points and 11 rebounds, Brandon Jenkins had 16 points, and Paul Jones had 10 points.  In the win, ex-Kansas State player Akeem Wright had 29 points and 11 rebounds, ex-DII player Corin Henry had 13 points, and ex-Northern Arizona player Casey Frank had 10 points.

David McClure and Siauliai looked to either head to the semifinals or have their season ended in Game 3 against Neptunas, coming up just short in a wild 89-88 loss.  David did not score in 22 minutes, but did dish out 4 assists.  Derek Needham had 25 points and 9 assists, Travis Leslie had 20 points and 6 rebounds, and Chris Cooper had 10 points.  In the win, ex-Old Dominion player Valdas Vasylius had 14 points and 6 rebounds.  David finished another season in Lithuania, playing with two different teams and experiencing the team success of winning the Baltic League although some injury and other issues prevented him from having a stronger individual season.
