Duke Basketball Overseas -- part 41 of a season long series

On Monday, Karima Christmas and Maccabi Ramat Hen faced powerhouse Elitzur Ramla in the semifinals of the Israeli Cup and fell short 71-58.  Karima had 10 points and 9 rebounds as she played all but 40 seconds of the game.  Ashley Shields had 18 points and 6 rebounds and Limor Pelleg had 10 points.  In the win, ex-LSU player Allison Hightower had 20 points and 10 assists, rookie Naama Shafir from Toledo had 18 points and 7 rebounds, ex-Hofstra player Vanessa Gidden had 11 points and 15 rebounds, and ex-Miami player Tamara James and ex-Villanova player Katia Levitsky had 11 points each.

On Tuesday, Daniel Ewing and Paris-Levallois lost 70-59 to Dijon as it took a while for both teams to recover from an early slump.  Daniel had 9 points in 29 minutes.  Blake Schilb had 13 points and Maleye Ndoye had 11 points.  In the win, ex-Alabama player Mykal Riley had 22 points, ex-Fairleigh Dickinson player Andre Harris had 12 points, and ex-Richmond player Anthony Dobbins had 10 points and 11 rebounds.

David McClure missed out as Siauliai returned to domestic league competition and fell 83-77 in overtime to Lietkabelis.  Travis Leslie had 28 points and 15 rebounds.  In the win, ex-Fairfield player Ryan Olander had 16 points.

On Wednesday, DeMarcus Nelson and Red Star Belgrade hosted the first game of their EuroCup Round of 16 matchup with Lietuvos Rytas.  The game was close throughout, but they head to Lithuania with an 88-82 win so they can still advance if they lose the second game by 5 or fewer points.  DeMarcus had 13 points in 33 minutes and Tadija Dragicevic had 16 points.  In the loss, Renaldas Seibutis, the 50th pick of the Dallas Mavericks in 2007, had 17 points, ex-St. John's player Omar Cook had 13 points and 6 assists, and ex-Louisville player Juan Palacios had 13 points.

Monique Currie and the KB Stars recorded an impressive 75-58 win over league leaders Woori Bank Hansae.  Monique had 17 points and 6 rebounds in 21 minutes.  Marissa Coleman had 12 points and 6 rebounds.  In the loss, ex-Georgia Tech player Sasha Goodlett had 10 points.

Chante Black missed Umbertide's key game at Ragusa due to injury, but they held on to a 61-56 win.  Ashleigh Fontenette had 10 points and 9 rebounds.  In the loss, ex-Cal player Ashley Walker had 18 points and 18 rebounds.

On Thursday, Marty Pocius and Zalgiris Kaunas continued to put in stronger showings in EuroLeague play, but could not overcome Russian powerhouse CSKA Moscow at home in an 88-86 loss.  Marty had 20 points and 6 rebounds in 31 minutes.  Justin Dentmon had 28 points and Robertas Javtokas had 14 points.  In the win, ex-Arkansas player Sonny Weems had 15 points and ex-Duquesne player Aaron Jackson had 10 points.

David McClure is still out, so he missed the chance to play the team he was with earlier in the season as Siauliai hosted Neptunas in the first leg of the sixth round of the Lithuanian Cup, winning 92-79 to put themselves in a solid position for the second game.  Vytautas Sulskis had 27 points and 9 rebounds and Travis Leslie had 14 points and 7 rebounds.

On Friday, Nolan Smith and Cedevita Zagreb went to Hungary to face Szolnoki Olaj in Adriatic League play, falling 68-67 late.  Nolan had 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 9 assists in 34 minutes.  In the win, ex-Washington player Justin Holiday had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

It was the latest installment of the South Korea rivalry of the two former Duke players as Monique Currie continued her string of impressive performances leading the KB Stars to a 78-74 win over Alana Beard's Shinhan Bank S-Birds.  Monique had 27 points and 7 rebounds in 38 minutes and Alana had 14 points and 8 rebounds in 22 minutes before fouling out.  Shekinna Stricklen also chipped in 17 points in the loss.

On Saturday, DeMarcus Nelson and Red Star Belgrade built on their Adriatic League lead with a 78-65 win over Krka Novo Mesto of Slovenia.  DeMarcus had 6 points in 22 minutes as he battled foul trouble.  Charles Jenkins had 15 points and Tadija Dragicevic had 14 points and 9 rebounds.  In the loss, ex-TCU player Zvonko Buljan had 11 points and 6 rebounds and ex-Purdue player Christopher Booker had 11 points.

Krystal Thomas and Perfumerias Avenida beat Sedis 65-46 in domestic league play as they gear up for the important EuroLeague Women playoffs.  Krystal had 5 points and 9 rebounds in 19 minutes.  Shay Murphy had 14 points and 6 rebounds and Marta Fernandez had 10 points.  In the loss, ex-Boston College player Aja Parham had 18 points.

Mistie Bass played in the French League All Star Game, leading all scorers with 24 points in 28 minutes as her team won 101-98

Alana Beard and the Shinhan Bank S-Birds beat the Samsung Life Blue Minx 78-61 after a strong start.  Alana had 8 points in 15 minutes and Shekinna Stricklen had 22 points and 6 rebounds.  In the loss, ex-UConn player Charde Houston had 19 points and 6 rebounds and ex-Indiana player Kimberly Roberson had 11 points and 7 rebounds.
