Duke Basketball Overseas -- part 39 of a season long series

On Monday, Marty Pocius and Zalgiris Kaunas returned to domestic league play with an easy 85-71 win over Juventus.  Marty had 11 points in 23 minutes.  Robertas Javtokas had 15 points and 9 rebounds.  In the loss, ex-DIII player A.J. Matthew had 18 points.

On Tuesday, Shelden Williams and Tianjin tried to extend their season in Game 4 of the quarterfinals against Dongguan but fell short 114-109.  Shelden had a good season in China as he helped the team to their first ever playoff berth.  In this game, Shelden had 14 points and 12 rebounds in 36 minutes.  Sebastian Telfair had 18 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 assists.  In the win, ex-Cal State Fullerton player Bobby Brown had 35 points and 6 assists and ex-Syracuse player Donte Greene had 20 points and 14 rebounds.

David McClure and Siauliai host Barsy of Kazakhstan in the second game of their Round of 16 Baltic League matchup.  The team already carried a substantial lead from the first game which they also hosted as part of league rules and a 91-78 win in this game was more than enough to see them through.  David had 3 points in 24 minutes.  Travis Leslie had 23 points and 11 rebounds and Derek Needham had 13 points.  In the loss, ex-DII player Bryan Harrison had 17 points and ex-South Carolina player Zam Fredrick had 13 points.

On Wednesday, Nolan Smith and Cedevita Zagreb had the Kresimir Cosic Cup semifinal against Zadar and won 82-70 to advance to the final.  The domestic cup tournament in Croatia, named after the legendary ex-BYU basketball player, started with knockout round before this week's final four.  Nolan had 8 points in 25 minutes and Tomislav Zubcic had 12 points.

Monique Currie and the KB Stars beat KDB Life Winnus 81-71 after getting off to a good start.  Monique had 26 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 statistics in 32 points.  In the loss, ex-Tennessee player Kelley Cain had 28 points and 12 rebounds.

Karima Christmas and Maccabi Ramat Hen had a tough game against Elitzur Ramla in the second stage of the league in Israel, falling 77-66.  Karima had 10 points and 11 rebounds in 26 minutes.  Ashley Shields had 22 points and 8 rebounds.  In the win, ex-Miami player Tamara James and ex-Hofstra player Vanessa Gidden had 16 points and 8 rebounds each and ex-Villanova player Katia Levitsky had 13 points.

Krystal Thomas and Perfumerias Avenida finished the regular season of EuroLeague Women knowing that they were already qualified to the next round, but still fighting for seeding.  They traveled to the Czech Republic to face USK Prague and the game was close in the first half before the hosts established control and won 76-58.  Krystal had 5 points in 20 minutes and Tamara Abalde had 16 points.

On Thursday, Nolan Smith and Cedevita Zagreb won the Kresimir Kosic Cup by beating Zagreb, which has not had the chance to face as much top level competition, 86-68.  Nolan had 15 points in 33 minutes and Goran Suton had 13 points.

Alana Beard and the Shinhan Bank S-Birds came back late to beat the Woori Bank Hansae 75-72.  Alana had 12 points in 17 minutes and Shekinna Stricklen had 20 points.  In the loss, ex-UCLA player Noelle Quinn had 12 points and 9 rebounds.

On Friday, Marty Pocius and Zalgiris Kaunas went to Germany to face Bayern Munich in a EuroLeague game and played well before falling apart in the fourth quarter and losing 79-73.  Marty had 11 points in 28 minutes as his scoring fueled an early lead.  Robertas Javtokas had 18 points and Sarunas Jasikevicius had 15 points.  In the win, ex-Oregon player Bryce Taylor had 22 points, ex-Santa Clara player John Bryant had 11 points and 11 rebounds, and ex-Virginia Tech player Malcolm Delaney had 11 points and 6 assists.
