Duke Basketball Overseas -- part 37 of a season long series

On Monday, Alana Beard and the Shinhan Bank S-Birds lost 54-51 to the Samsung Life Blue Minx.  Alana had a quiet 10 minutes and Shekinna Stricklen had 26 points and 9 rebounds.  In the win, ex-UConn player Charde Houston had 21 points and 12 rebounds.

On Tuesday, Shelden Williams and Tianjin started the playoffs in China.  As the sixth place team after the regular season, the team hosted Game 1 of the quarterfinals against Dongguan and won 105-104.  Shelden had 13 points and 14 rebounds in 36 minutes.  Sebastian Telfair had 37 points and 6 assists.  In the loss, ex-Cal State Fullerton player Bobby Brown had 33 points and ex-Syracuse player Donte Greene had 24 points and 10 rebounds.

David McClure missed Siauliai's domestic league game at Juventus as they failed to complete a comeback and lost 70-67.  Travis Leslie had 21 points and 8 rebounds and Derek Needham had 15 points.  In the win, ex-DIII player A.J. Matthews had 16 points and 6 rebounds and former Tennessee-Chattanooga player Keyron Sheard had 16 points.

Daniel Ewing and Paris-Levallois continued to defend their French Cup crown as they visited Evreux, a team in the second division and won 64-53 to advance to the next round.  Daniel had 4 points in 21 minutes.  In the loss, ex-Oregon player Olu Ashaolu had 16 points and 11 rebounds.

On Wednesday, Monique Currie and the KB Stars beat KEB-Hanabank 78-72.  Monique had 17 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists in 37 minutes.  In the loss, ex-Kansas player Nakia Sanford had 26 points and 6 rebounds.

Karima Christmas and Maccabi Ramat Hen faced Hapoel Rishon Lezion as the second stage of the Israeli League featuring only the top teams continued, winning 85-69.  Karima had 20 points and 12 rebounds in 36 minutes.  Ashley Shields had 15 points and Brittany Denson had 12 points and 9 rebounds.  In the loss, ex-Cal player Alexis Gray-Lawson had 16 points and 9 rebounds, ex-Oklahoma player Amanda Thompson had 14 points and 9 rebounds, rookie Tolu Omotola from Liberty had 11 points and 7 rebounds, and rookie May Dayan from Temple had 11 points.

Krystal Thomas and Perfumerias Avenida hosted Russia's Spartak Moscow in EuroLeague Women play and fell 66-59.  Krystal had 2 points and 6 rebounds in 19 minutes.  Angelica Robinson had 20 points and 15 rebounds and Shay Murphy had 12 points and 8 rebounds.  In the win, ex-WNBA player Sonja Petrovic had 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Nolan Smith and Cedevita Zagreb closed out this stage of EuroCup with a trip to Lithuania knowing that they would need to beat Lietuvos Rytas to stay in the competition.  Although they made a strong late comeback attempt, they could not hang on to a lead for good and lost 75-74.  Nolan had 17 points in 34 minutes and Goran Suton added 10 points and 7 rebounds.  In the win, Renaldas Seibutis, the 50th pick of the Dallas Mavericks in 2007, had 15 points and ex-Wake Forest player Darius Songaila had 10 points and 6 rebounds.

DeMarcus Nelson and Red Star Belgrade were already moving on to the next EuroCup stage as they hosted Russia's Nizhny Novgorod, but the two teams were still fighting for the top spot in the group which would affect matchups later.  The game went back and forth before the hosts fell 78-73.  DeMarcus had 19 points in 34 minutes and Charles Jenkins had 25 points.  In the win, ex-Washington State player Taylor Rochestie had 14 points and 7 assists and ex-NBA player Primoz Brezec had 14 points.

On Thursday, Alana Beard and the Shinhan Bank S-Birds beat KDB Life Winnus after a blistering start to the second half.  Alana had 2 points in 4 minutes and Shekinna Stricklen had 31 points and 7 rebounds.  In the loss, Stricklen's Tennessee teammate Kelley Cain had 18 points and 9 rebounds.

David McClure missed another game for Siauliai as they returned to Baltic League play.  After the first stage of the league was complete, the 21 teams were arranged in order of record with the top 16 teams moving on to the playoffs.  While most of the series are two game home and home affairs, Siauliai finished 6th, getting the lucky draw of Barsy from Kazakhstan, which means two home games because of the distance that would be required for travel.  They won the first game 107-79 for a decisive lead.  Travis Leslie had 21 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 assists and Vytautas Sulkis had 11 points.  In the loss, ex-DII player Bryan Harrison had 14 points and ex-South Carolina player Zam Fredrick had 11 points.

On Friday, Daniel Ewing and Paris-Levallois returned to domestic league action with a 72-53 win over Chorale Roanne.  Daniel had 8 points in 21 minutes and Blake Schilb had 19 points.  In the loss, ex-Wisconsin player Zach Morley had 14 points.

Marty Pocius made his return to Real Madrid as Zalgiris Kaunas had a tricky EuroLeague game in Spain and just could not contain their powerful offense, falling 108-72.  Marty had 2 points in 13 minutes.  Justin Dentmon had 21 points and 6 rebounds and Robertas Javtokas had 15 points.  In the win, ex-NBA player Rudy Fernandez had 20 points, Sergio Llull, the 34th pick of the Denver Nuggets in 2009 before a draft day trade to the Houston Rockets, had 15 points and 9 assists, ex-NBA player Sergio Rodriguez had 12 points and 9 assists, and Nikola Mirotic, the 23rd pick of the Houston Rockets in 2011 before a pair of draft day trades sent his rights to the Chicago Bulls, had 11 points.
