Duke Basketball Overseas -- part 36 of a season long series

On Saturday, Kathleen Scheer finished her first WNBL season as the Sydney University Flames beat the West Coast Waves 79-54.  Kathleen had 3 points in 14 minutes to complete a solid season at this level after injuries cut her season short last year.  Lasondra Barrett had 10 points and 7 rebounds.

Jess Foley and the Adelaide Lightning finished up their season by beating the Dandenong Rangers 88-82.  Jess had 11 points in 26 minutes to finish off a strong season after recovering from her injury as she returned to Adelaide to play basketball while attending medical school.  Laura Hodges had 12 points and 8 rebounds and Chay Shegog had 12 points.  In the loss, WNBA player Jenna O'Hea had 29 points, ex-Stanford player Kayla Pedersen had 13 points and 7 rebounds, and ex-Notre Dame player Natalie Novosel had 10 points and 8 rebounds.

Monique Currie and the KB Stars fell 65-61 to the Samsung Life Blue Minx.  Monique had 8 points in 24 minutes.  In the win, ex-UConn player Charde Houston had 15 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 assists.

Chante Black and Umbertide had the Italian Cup semifinal game.  As a top four team in the first half of the league, the team earned the opportunity to participate in the competition, drawing powerhouse Famila Schio, putting up a good fight before coming up short 63-59.  Chante had 10 points and Ashleigh Fontenette had 18 points as full statistics are not available.  In the win, ex-Gonzaga player Courtney Vandersloot had 13 points and ex-WNBA player Raffaella Masciadri had 10 points.

Krystal Thomas and Perfumerias Avenida returned to domestic league play and beat Conquero 85-64.  Krystal had 4 points and 10 rebounds in 19 minutes.  Angelica Robinson had 20 points, Shay Murphy had 14 points, Leonor Rodriguez had 13 points, and Marta Fernandez had 11 points.

David McClure and Siauliai finished the regular season of the Baltic League with a tough trip to Latvia, losing 98-56 to Ventspils as they will find out the next matchup after the conclusion of the round of games.  David had a quiet 4 minutes as Vytautas Sulskis had 21 points and 8 rebounds.  In the win, ex-Rice player Lorenzo Williams had 19 points and 7 rebounds and Janis Timma, the last pick of the last draft by the Memphis Grizzlies had 18 points and 6 assists.

Daniel Ewing and Paris-Levallois had their Leader's Cup semifinal against Nanterre and they looked to be headed to the final again before their opponents mounted a late comeback and won 80-73 to prevent Daniel's team from winning both cup competition again.  Daniel had 13 points and 6 rebounds in 31 minutes.  Elton Brown had 16 points and 6 rebounds and Blake Schilb had 11 points.  In the loss, ex-Rhode Island player Will Daniels had 19 points and 7 rebounds, rookie Deshaun Thomas from Ohio State, the 58th pick of the San Antonio Spurs, had 17 points, and Sergii Gladyr, the 49th pick of the Atlanta Hawks in 2009, had 14 points.

On Sunday, Shelden Williams and Tianjin finished the regular season with a 105-93 loss to Xinjiang as they now prepare for the playoffs.  Shelden had 37 points and 12 rebounds in 42 minutes.  Sebastian Telfair had 19 points.  In the win, former Tennessee-Martin player Lester Hudson had 32 points and 6 rebounds and ex-Murray State player James Singleton had 16 points and 9 rebounds.

Lance Thomas finished up the season with Foshan as they were never able to get Shavlik Randolph back and they lost the finale to Guangsha 118-95.  Lance had 19 points and 11 rebounds in 39 minutes to complete a strong first season overseas, making one wonder if the season could have turned out differently for the team if they had signed him as an injury replacement earlier.  Shavlik looked like he could have another good season in China before his injury.  In the win, ex-New Mexico State player Jonathan Gibson had 21 points and 8 assists and ex-LSU player Chris Johnson had 19 points and 15 rebounds.

Marty Pocius and Zalgiris Kaunas returned to domestic league action with an 80-71 win over LSU-Atletas.  Marty had 2 points in 19 minutes.

It was a battle between former Duke players in the Adriatic League as Nolan Smith and Cedevita Zagreb hosted DeMarcus Nelson and Red Star Belgrade.  Nolan led his team in the fourth quarter as they came back to win 68-64, finishing with 18 points and 6 rebounds in 32 minutes.  DeMarcus had 2 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 assists in 29 minutes.  Allan Ray added 10 points, all on free throws, in the win.
