Duke Basketball Overseas -- part 28 of a season long series

On Tuesday, David McClure and Siauliai won another domestic league game by beating last place Lietkabelis 62-50.  David had 13 points and 9 rebounds in 29 minutes.  Vytautas Sulskis had 14 points and Derek Needham had 11 points.

Daniel Ewing's suspension also covers games in the French Cup, leaving Paris-Levallois shorthanded as they tried to defend their title.  In this round, they drew second division team Le Portel and needed to comeback in the second half for an 80-71 win to keep going in the competition.  Elton Brown had 15 points and 8 rebounds and Maleye Ndoye had 11 points.  In the loss, ex-DII player Charles Jackson had 18 points, ex-Canisius player Darnell Wilson had 15 points, and ex-Hawaii player Matthew Gibson had 14 points.

On Wednesday, what originally was billed as a battle between two long-time Duke teammates still had two Duke players involved as Shelden Williams and Tianjin faced Lance Thomas and Foshan with Shavlik Randolph still sidelined by injury.  Shelden's team, still fighting hard for a playoff spot, came away with the 113-106 win.  Shelden had 22 points and 22 rebounds in 36 minute while Lance had 23 points and 6 rebounds in his 36 minutes.  Sebastian Telfair contributed 31 points and 10 assists to the win while Gerald Fitch had 18 points and 7 rebounds in the loss.

DeMarcus Nelson and Red Star Belgrade made the trip far to the east to Russia to face Nizhny Novgorod in EuroCup action.  They held the lead going into halftime, but could not keep pace in the second half as they lost 86-75.  DeMarcus led his team with 22 points and 6 rebounds in 32 minutes.  Ivan Radenovic had 14 points and 6 rebounds and Charles Jenkins had 11 points.  In the win, ex-Nevada player Luke Babbitt had 25 points.

Nolan Smith and Cedevita Zagreb hosted Lithuania's Lietuvos Rytas in their EuroCup group and led for most of the game before falling victim to a fourth quarter comeback in an 84-83 loss.  Nolan had 16 points in 30 minutes.  Goran Suton and Tomislav Zubcic had 11 points each.  In the win, Renaldas Seibutis, the 50th pick of the Dallas Mavericks in 2007, had 17 points, ex-Wake Forest player Darius Songaila had 16 points, ex-Louisville player Juan Palacios had 11 points and 10 rebounds, and ex-Virginia Tech player Zabian Dowdell had 10 points.

Krystal Thomas and Perfumerias Avenida returned from the break in EuroLeague Women action, hosting Turkish powerhouse Galatasaray.  The team took a lead into halftime before having a surprisingly easy second half on their way to a dominating 68-48 win.  Krystal had 3 points and 7 rebounds in 17 minutes.  Shay Murphy led the team with 23 points and 9 rebounds.  In the loss, ex-Houston player Sancho Lyttle had 10 points and 6 rebounds in the loss.

On Thursday, Marty Pocius was still injured as Zalgiris Kaunas hosted Israel's Maccabi Tel Aviv in a EuroLeague contest.  They led for most of the game before letting the visitors back in the game in the second half as they lost 87-78.  Justin Dentmon had 21 points, 6 rebounds, and 10 assists.  In the win, ex-Boston College player Tyrese Rice had 20 points, ex-Virginia player Devin Smith had 15 points and 8 rebounds, ex-Florida player Alex Tyus had 10 points and 7 rebounds, and ex-Duquesne player Shawn James had 10 points.

Monique Currie and the KB Stars beat KEB-Hanabank 70-60.  Monique led her team again with 25 points and 14 rebounds in 31 minutes.  In the loss, ex-Arizona player Ify Ibekwe had 12 points and 6 rebounds and ex-Kansas player Nakia Sanford had 10 points and 6 rebounds.

On Friday, Kathleen Scheer and the Sydney University Flames pounded the West Coast Waves in the second half for a 75-43 win.  Kathleen had 6 points in 15 minutes.
