Duke Basketball Overseas -- part 23 of a season long series

On Saturday in Australia while it was still Friday in the United States, Kathleen Scheer and the Sydney University Flames beat the Logan Thunder 93-75.  Kathleen had 11 points in 18 minutes.  In the loss, the ex-Wyoming duo led their team as Emma Langford had 22 points and 7 rebounds and Hanna Zavecz had 14 points with ex-WNBA player Kristen Veal adding 11 points.

Mistie Bass and Lyon beat Charleville 75-57.  Mistie had 12 points and 12 rebounds in 36 minutes.  Ex-Florida State player Jacinta Monroe had 11 points in the loss.

Krystal Thomas and Perfumerias Avenida came back late to avoid a domestic league upset, beating Bembibre 71-68.  Krystal had a quiet offensive game, grabbing 3 rebounds in 5 minutes.  Shay Murphy had 29 points and 6 rebounds and Angelica Robinson had 11 points and 6 rebounds.  In the loss, ex-Hawaii player Dita Liepkalne had 14 points and 9 rebounds and ex-Colorado State player Melissa Dennett had 13 points.

On Sunday in Australia, while it was still Saturday in the United States, Jess Foley and the Adelaide Lightning faced her former team, the Townsville Fire.  The team got off to a good start, but could not keep the lead as they fell 75-67.  Jess led her team with 18 points in 37 minutes and Chay Shegog had 11 points and 6 rebounds.  In the win, ex-WNBA player Suzy Batkovic had 30 points and 15 rebounds and ex-Oregon player Micaela Cocks had 10 points.

Alana Beard and the Shinhan Bank S-Birds shook off a slow start to beat the Samsung Life Blue Minx 60-51.  Alana had 4 points in 17 minutes and Shekinna Stricklen had 12 points and 8 rebounds.

Chante Black and Umbertide pounded on San Martino Di Lupari 70-52.  Chante had 14 points and 11 rebounds in 27 minutes as she was perfect from the field.  Ashleigh Fontenette had 16 points.  In the loss, Emily Correal, a rookie from William and Mary, had 11 points and 7 rebounds.

Shelden Williams and Tianjin beat Shanghai 104-101.  Shelden had 29 points and 14 rebounds in 34 minutes and Sebastian Telfair had 23 points and 7 rebounds.  In the loss, ex-Rutgers player Quincy Douby had 25 points and 6 assists and ex-Kansas player Darnell Jackson had 16 points.

Without Marty Pocius, Zalgiris Kaunas suffered a big domestic league setback against Lietuvos Rytas, falling 90-58 with nobody scoring in double figures.  In the win, Renaldas Seibutis, the 50th pick of the Dallas Mavericks in 2007, had 17 points and 7 rebounds and ex-Wake Forest player Darius Songaila had 14 points.

Nolan Smith and Cedevita Zagreb had a key Adriatic League game hosting Serbia's Partizan Belgrade, hanging on to a big 68-65 win.  Nolan led his team with 20 points in 33 minutes.  Goran Suton added 15 points and 6 rebounds.  In the loss, ex-South Carolina player Tarence Kinsey had 24 points and 7 rebounds.

On Monday, Monique Currie and the KB Stars beat the Woori Bank Hansae 80-77.  Monique had game highs of 30 points and 13 rebounds in 34 minutes.

Karima Christmas and Maccabi Ramat Hen had an Israeli Cup quarterfinal against Elizur Netanya and overcame a slow start to win 56-53.  Karima had 13 points and 8 rebounds as she played the entire 40 minutes.  Ashley Shields had 17 points and Brittany Denson had 14 points and 15 rebounds.  In the loss, rookie Jasmine Hassell had 16 points and 8 rebounds.

DeMarcus Nelson and Red Star Belgrade seized a lead early in their Adriatic League game against Cibona Zagreb of Croatia and rolled to an 88-63 win to give themselves the outright league lead at the halfway point of the season.  DeMarcus had 14 points in 17 minutes before being rested.  Charles Jenkins had 14 points and Blake Schilb had 11 points.  In the loss, ex-Maryland player D.J. Strawberry had 15 points.

Daniel Ewing served the remainder of his initial suspension as Paris-Levallois experienced an abrupt halt to their winning streak domestically with a 74-60 loss to Asvel Lyon-Villeurbanne.  Elton Brown and Maleye Ndoye had 11 points each.  In the win, ex-D League player Amara Sy had 15 points and ex-DII player Georgi Joseph had 13 points and 9 rebounds.
