Duke Basketball Overseas -- part 10 of a season long series

On Friday, Kathleen Scheer returned to the starting lineup as the Sydney University Flames faced the Logan Thunder, but team lost again, falling 83-74.  Kathleen finished with 15 points and 6 rebounds in 22 minutes.  In the win, ex-Wyoming player Emma Langford had 21 points and ex-Kansas State player Laurie Koehn had 13 points.

On Saturday, it was a quick turnaround for Kathleen Scheer and the Sydney University Flames as they faced the Townsville Fire and suffered another tough loss 76-66.  Kathleen had 13 points and 11 rebounds in 21 minutes.  In the win, ex-Gonzaga player Kayla Standish had 18 points and 7 rebounds, ex-WNBA player Suzy Batkovic had 17 points and 12 rebounds, and ex-Oregon player Micaela Cocks had 13 points.

Monique Currie and the KB Stars were involved in an absolute thriller as the game against KDB Life Winnus went into overtime before they prevailed 105-100.  Monique finished with 16 points and 6 rebounds in 20 minutes and Marissa Coleman had 15 points and 6 rebounds.  In the loss, ex-Tennessee player Kelley Cain had 26 points and 12 rebounds.

Krystal Thomas and Perfumerias had a key game against their main rivals Rivas Ecopolis and led most of the way as they won 73-65.  Krystal wound up playing only two minutes.  Shay Murphy had 17 points and 11 rebounds and Angelica Robinson had 15 points and 12 rebounds.  In the loss, ex-Baylor player Rachel Allison had 19 points.

David McClure and Neptunas were looking for their first VTB United League win after missing several opportunities and managed to do so by holding off Triumph Lyubertsy of Russia 87-82.  David did not end up playing.  Valdas Vasylius had 12 points and Arvydas Eitutavicius had 10 points and 6 assists.  In the loss, Milovan Rakovic, who was drafted with the last pick in 2007 by the Dallas Mavericks before a draft day trade to the Orlando Magic, had 23 points and 8 rebounds, ex-Colorado player Cory Higgins had 19 points and 8 assists, and ex-Robert Morris player Jeremy Chappell had 18 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists.

Nolan Smith and Cedevita Zagreb hosted Siroki of Bosnia in the Adriatic League and picked up another win with a strong start giving them an 85-76 final margin.  Nolan led his team with 19 points in 36 minutes.  Goran Suton added 10 points.  In the loss, ex-Canisius player Julius Coles had 13 points and ex-Oakland player Johnathon Jones had 11 points and 6 assists.

Daniel Ewing and Paris-Levallois had another tough game in France, falling 90-83 to Pau-Lacq-Orthez.  Daniel had 9 points in 28 minutes.  Jawad Williams had 16 points and Elton Brown had 12 points.  In the win, ex-St. Joseph's player Ahmad Nivins, who was drafted 56th in 2009 by the Dallas Mavericks before his rights were traded to the New York Knicks, had 20 points and 7 rebounds, ex-Northwestern player Michael Thompson had 18 points and 9 assists, and recent New Mexico State graduate Bandja Sy had 11 points.

On Sunday in Australia, while it was still Saturday in the United States, Jess Foley and the Adelaide Lightning dominated the first and third quarters to absolutely dismantle the West Coast Waves 93-41.  Jess had 10 points in 24 minutes.  Laura Hodges had 26 points and 9 rebounds and Amy Lewis had 11 points.

Chante Black and Umbertide were finally able to return to action as they faced Cagliari and came from behind to win 60-56.  Chante had 18 points and 7 rebounds in 28 minutes.  Ashleigh Fontenette added 12 points and 7 rebounds.  In the loss, ex-Louisiana Tech player Adrienne Johnson had 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Mistie Bass and Lyon returned to league play with their chance to welcome Angers to the league and did so by handing them a 77-63 loss to add to the newcomers' misery.  Mistie had 11 points in 31 minutes.  In the loss, ex-Hofstra player Lizanne Murphy had 21 points and 8 rebounds.

On Monday, Karima Christmas and Maccabi Ramat Hen faced another player who spent time at Duke as they faced Chelsea Hopkins and Bnot Herzliya and beat them 80-66.  Karima had 20 points and 15 rebounds in 36 minutes.  Ashley Shields had 24 points and Toni Young had 15 points and 14 rebounds.  Chelsea finished with 12 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists as ex-UNC player Jessica Breland added 24 points and 12 rebounds and ex-Florida State player Cierra Bravard had 10 points and 12 rebounds.

DeMarcus Nelson and Red Star Belgrade headed to Montenegro to face Buducnost in Adriatic League play and dropped a tough one 62-60.  DeMarcus had 5 points in 25 minutes and Blake Schilb had 10 points.  In the win, ex-Chicago State player Jeleel Akindele had 12 points and 7 rebounds.
