Duke Basketball Overseas 3/19/16

On Monday, Marty Pocius and Zalgiris returned to domestic league play and beat Lietkabelis 90-70.  Marty led his team with 18 points in 19 minutes.  Renaldas Seibutis had 15 points and Ian Vougioukas had 10 points.  In the loss, ex-NBA player Mile Ilic had 13 points and 6 rebounds.

Jasmine Thomas and Bnei Hertzeliya had the semifinals of the Israeli Cup, losing 69-50 to Maccabi Ashdod.  Jasmine had 7 points in 37 minutes.  Keisha Hampton had 17 points and 10 rebounds and Michelle Snow had 15 points and 10 rebounds.  In the win, ex-Maryland player Shay Doron had 14 points, ex-LSU player Theresa Plaisance had 12 points and 12 rebounds, ex-Villanova player Katia Levitsky had 11 points, and ex-Middle Tennessee State player Alysha Clark had 10 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists.

On Wednesday, Shavlik Randolph and Liaoning hit the road for Game 3 of the Finals, losing 109-104 to Sichuan.  Shavlik had 24 points and 12 rebounds in 28 minutes.  Lester Hudson had 31 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists.  In the win, ex-Washington player Justin Dentmon had 40 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists, ex-NBA player Hamed Haddadi had 28 points and 25 rebounds, and ex-Rice player Mike Harris had 12 points and 8 rebounds.

Tricia Liston started the Finals with Game 1 on the road against the Hansae, losing 66-51.  Tricia had 6 points in 11 minutes.  In the win, ex-Tennessee player Shekinna Stricklen had 11 points.

On Thursday, Josh Hairston and Norrkoping had Game 2 of the Quarterfinals, nearly completing an impressive comeback against Sundsvall, but losing 67-65 to leave the series tied.  Josh had 8 points and 8 rebounds in 29 minutes.  Joakim Kjellbom had 23 points and 21 rebounds.  In the win, ex-Oregon State player Charles Barton had 14 points and 7 assists and ex-North Carolina Central player Ray Willis had 11 points.

On Friday, Shavlik Randolph and Liaoning lost Game 4 of the Finals 96-87 to Sichuan as they must now sweep the rest of the games to win the title.  Shavlik had 11 points and 6 rebounds in 29 minutes.  Lester Hudson had 31 points and 10 rebounds.  In the win, Mike Harris had 34 points and 10 rebounds, Hamed Haddadi had 13 points and 20 rebounds, and Justin Dentmon had 11 points and 8 rebounds.

DeMarcus Nelson and Malaga hosted his former team Red Star Belgrade from Serbia in EuroLeague play and had a big lead early only to fall victim to a comeback and lose 78-72.  DeMarcus had 2 points in 20 minutes.  Nemanja Nedovic had 22 points, Will Thomas had 13 points and 6 rebounds, and Jack Cooley had 11 points and 6 rebounds.  In the win, ex-Baylor player Quincy Miller had 11 points and 7 rebounds.

Marty Pocius and Zalgiris had a tough EuroLeague trip to Greece and lost 74-59.  Marty had 2 points in 17 minutes.  Ian Vougioukas had 14 points.  In the win, Georgios Printezis, who was drafted 58th in 2007 by the San Antonio Spurs who reacquired his rights after eight trades, had 17 points and ex-NBA player Kostas Papanikolaou had 11 points.

Jess Foley and the Norwood Flames rolled to a 95-65 win over the Southern Tigers as their team got another key addition of a WNBA draftee.  Jess had 12 points and 9 rebounds in 25 minutes.  Marisa Stabile had 18 points and 7 rebounds and Taylor Ortlepp had 14 points and 6 assists.  In the loss, ex-Boston University player Mollie McKendrick had 15 points and 7 rebounds.

Haley Peters and Conquero were extremely shorthanded against Iraurgi, but won 78-68.  Haley was leaned on to carry the offensive load and led all scorers with 27 points and grabbed a team high 13 rebounds as she played all but 36 seconds of the game.  Aya Traore had 18 points and 10 rebounds.  In the loss, rookie Marita Davydova from Florida International had 12 points and 15 rebounds.
