Duke Basketball Overseas 1/27/18

Last Friday, Daniel Ewing and Ferro Carril Oeste started the Group Stage of the League of the Americas in Monterrey, Mexico.  While Canada and the United States do not participate, teams through the Americas play for the championship and Daniel's team qualified before he got there.  Instead of home and away games, a group of four teams plays in one location to determine which teams progress to the next stage.  Their first game was against the Mexicali Suns, which they won 79-77.  Daniel had 3 points in 19 minutes.  Dijon Thompson had 18 points and 8 rebounds and Aaron Harper had 18 points.  In the loss, ex-Hawaii player Aaron Valdes had 15 points and 6 rebounds, ex-West Virginia player John Flowers and ex-Western Kentucky player Orlando Mendez-Valdez had 14 points each, and ex-JC player Joseph Soto had 12 points.

On Saturday, Daniel Ewing and Ferro Carril Oeste continued play in Group A of the League of the Americas with a 101-79 win over the Arecibo Captains from Puerto Rico.  Daniel had 9 points in 20 minutes.  Aaron Harper had 22 points.  In the loss, ex-D League player Ricky Sanchez had 17 points and 6 rebounds, ex-Georgia Southern player Angel Matias had 17 points, ex-Florida International player Johwen Villegas had 13 points, and ex-Texas player Damion James had 10 points.

On Sunday, Daniel Ewing and Ferro Carril Oeste finished League of the Americas first round play against the other team that would advance to the semifinals, the hosts Regian Force, winning 85-72.  Daniel had 4 points in 18 minutes.  In the loss, ex-Bowling Green player Martin Samarco had 15 points and ex-DIII player Andy Panko had 13 points.

On Monday, Chante Black and Winnus lost 69-56.  Chante had 2 points in 12 minutes.  Aishah Sutherland had 14 points and 12 rebounds.  In the win, ex-Baylor player Destiny Williams had 15 points and 7 rebounds and ex-Notre Dame player Natalie Achonwa had 11 points and 6 rebounds.

On Wednesday, Shavlik Randolph lost to his last team Liaoning 116-90.  Shavlik had 26 points and 12 rebounds in 38 minutes.  Stephon Marbury had 11 points.  In the win, ex-LSU player Brandon Bass had 26 points and 8 rebounds and former Tennessee-Martin player Lester Hudson had 24 points.

DeMarcus Nelson and Lyon-Villeurbanne visited fellow French side Limoges CSP in EuroCup action, winning 87-61.  DeMarcus had 5 points in 21 minutes.  Justin Harper had 19 points and A.J. Slaughter and John Roberson had 10 points each.  In the loss, ex-Miami of Ohio player Kenny Hayes had 11 points.

Angela Salvadores and Sopron went to the Czech Republic in EuroLeague Women play and beat USK Prague 77-61.  Angela had 11 points in 25 minutes.  Yvonne Turner had 20 points and Crystal Langhorne had 10 points and 9 rebounds.  In the loss, ex-WNBA player Marta Xargay had 21 points and ex-Minnesota player Amanda Zahui B had 11 points.

On Thursday, Monique Currie and the Stars won 76-70.  Monique had 8 points and 6 rebounds in 16 minutes.  Damiris Dantas had 27 points and 8 rebounds.  In the loss, ex-James Madison player Jazmon Gwathmey had 16 points and 8 rebounds and ex-Tennessee player Isabelle Harrison had 13 points and 8 rebounds.

Krystal Thomas and Mersin hosted Charleville of France in Game 1 of the EuroCup Women Round of 8, winning 80-71.  Krystal had 19 points and 14 rebounds in 35 minutes.  Bria Hartley had 18 points and 6 rebounds.  In the loss, ex-WNBA player Clarissa Dos Santos had 18 points and 15 rebounds.

On Friday, Shavlik Randolph lost to one of his former teams Shenzhen 115-93.  Shavlik had 32 points and 18 rebounds in 41 minutes.  In the win, ex-Boston College player Tyrese Rice had 21 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 assists and ex-Ohio State player Jared Sullinger had 19 points, 17 rebounds, and 7 assists.
