Duke Basketball Overseas 1/25/19

On Sunday, Tyler Thornton made his debut for his new team, the Halifax Hurricanes as they beat the Sudbury Five 122-93.  Tyler was quickly able to find a new team, heading to Canada, where his teammates include ex-Iona player Mike Poole, rookie Malcolm Duvivier from Akron, ex-Wichita State player Chadrack Lufile, ex-Manhattan player Rhamel Brown, ex-DePaul player Cliff Clinkscales, ex-DII player Joel Kindred, ex-Iona player Jordan Washington, ex-New Mexico State player Tyrone Watson, ex-DII player Darin Mency, and ex-Morehead State player Chad Posthumus.  In this game, he had 11 points in 19 minutes.  Poole had 25 points and 6 rebounds, Kindred had 21 points and 7 rebounds, Lufile had 14 points and 8 rebounds, and Washington and Duvivier had 10 points each.  In the loss, ex-UC Riverside player Jaylen Bland had 28 points, ex-Akron player Isaiah Johnson had 18 points, ex-New Orleans player Cory Dixon had 13 points and 8 rebounds, and ex-DII player Devin Gilligan had 11 points.

On Monday, Krystal Thomas and her team lost to the Stars 79-71.  Krystal had 6 points and 10 rebounds in 29 minutes.  In the win, WNBA player Park Ji-Su had 21 points and 9 rebounds and ex-UTEP player Kayla Thornton had 11 points and 7 rebounds.

On Tuesday, DeMarcus Nelson and Lyon-Villeurbanne hosted Frankfurt of Germany in EuroCup play, winning 75-52.  DeMarcus had 4 points in 17 minutes.  A.J. Slaughter had 15 points.  In the loss, ex-Georgetown player Jason Clark had 13 points.

On Wednesday, Ryan Kelly and Shibuya lost to Tochigi 81-62.  Ryan had 16 points and 6 rebounds in 35 minutes.  Robert Sacre had 21 points and 10 rebounds.  In the win, ex-DIII player Jeff Gibbs had 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 7 assists and ex-Siena player Ryan Rossiter had 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 9 assists.

Jasmine Thomas and Polkowice traveled to Belgium for EuroLeague Women play, beating Braine 94-71.  Jasmine had 10 points in 28 minutes.  Tiffany Hayes had 16 points and Temi Fagbenle had 13 points.  In the loss, ex-DII player Celeste Trahan had 12 points and 8 rebounds.

On Thursday, Haley Peters and Charleville traveled to Turkey for a EuroLeague Women game against Hatay, losing 74-66.  Haley had 25 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 assists as she played all but 20 seconds.  In the win, ex-Miami player Riquna Williams had 20 points and 6 rebounds.

Chelsea Gray and 2 seed Cukurova played fellow Turkish team and 18 seed Besiktas in Game 1 of the EuroCup Women Round of 16, winning 73-65.  Chelsea had 8 points in 24 minutes.  Astou Ndour had 24 points.  In the loss, rookie Kelsey Mitchell from Ohio State had 20 points and ex-Kentucky player Evelyn Akhator had 12 points and 9 rebounds.
