Duke Basketball Overseas - 1/10/2015

On Monday, it was a battle of two former Duke players when Chelsea Gray and Hapoel Rishon Lezion faced Sheana Mosch and Elitzur Holon.  Sheana and her team looked for an ever elusive win and took the lead into halftime, but Chelsea and her team stormed back and held on to a wild 99-91 win.  Chelsea had 27 points and 10 assists in 34 minutes and Sheana had 32 points in 39 minutes.  In the win, Karisma Penn had 32 points and 9 rebounds and Alexis Hornbuckle had 15 points, 11 rebounds, and 8 assists.  In the loss, Toccara Ross had 17 points and 9 rebounds, Courtney Clements had 16 points and 7 rebounds, Thea Lemberger had 14 points, and another ex-UCLA player Ortal Oren, who recently joined the team, had 10 points.

On Tuesday, Tricia Liston and Cagliari returned from their holiday break and lost 97-73 to Venezia.  Tricia had 17 points in 37 minutes.  In the win, ex-Charlotte player Shannon McCallum had 15 points and 6 rebounds.

On Wednesday, Mistie Bass and Lattes Montpellier returned to EuroLeague Women play hosting Galatasaray of Turkey as both teams struggled before the visitors pulled away late for a 59-48 win.  Mistie had 2 points in 31 minutes.  In the win, ex-Houston player Sancho Lyttle had 14 points and 11 rebounds and ex-Stanford player Sebnem Kimyacioglu had 12 points and 6 rebounds.

Chloe Wells, but not Richa Jackson played as Barretos returned from their holiday break and beat Brasilia 77-67 to pick up their first national league win.  Chloe led all scorers with 27 points in 30 minutes.

Shelden Williams and Tianjin beat the original Jiangsu team based in Nanjing 116-105.  Shelden had 28 points, 19 rebounds, and 6 assists in 45 minutes.  Dwight Buycks had 22 points and 6 assists.  In the loss, ex-Mississippi State player Arnett Moultrie had 27 points and 19 rebounds and ex-Long Beach State player Chang Lin had 11 points.

On Thursday, it was a showdown between two former Duke players in South Korea when Monique Currie and the Blue Minx just edged past Karima Christmas and the S-Birds 62-61 as the prepare to face one another again on Sunday.  Monique finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds in 35 minutes and Karima, who had her streak of game MVPs snapped at 6 while finally getting some help on the roster, had 19 points and 12 rebounds in 34 minutes.

Sheana Mosch nearly shot her team past Ramat Hasharon in the Israel Cup quarterfinals, but Elitzur Holon could not keep up with the firepower of their opposition and lost 94-77.  Sheana had 28 points in 37 minutes.  Toccara Ross had 25 points and 7 rebounds and Courtney Clements had 14 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists.  In the win, ex-Georgia player Anne Marie Armstrong had 19 points, ex-Kentucky player A'Dia Mathies had 18 points and 6 assists, ex-Miami player Tamara James had 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 assists, and rookie Alyssa Baron from Penn had 17 points and 7 rebounds.

Marty Pocius and Galatasaray had a EuroLeague trip to Spain to face his old team Real Madrid, falling 93-78.  Marty had 7 points in 16 minutes.  Carlos Arroyo had 11 points and 6 assists.  In the win, ex-NBA player Rudy Fernandez had 15 points, ex-NBA player Sergio Rodriguez had 13 points, and Sergio Llull, the 34th pick of the Denver Nuggets in 2009 before a draft day trade to the Houston Rockets, had 12 points and 7 assists.

On Friday, Shelden Williams and Tianjin lost 112-100 to Dongguan.  Shelden had 19 points and 8 rebounds in 32 minutes.  Dwight Buycks had 29 points and 9 rebounds.  In the loss, ex-Cal State Fullerton player Bobby Brown had 23 points and ex-Arizona State player Ike Diogu had 18 points and 13 rebounds.

DeMarcus Nelson and Panathinaikos went to Spain for a EuroLeague trip at FC Barcelona and took an early lead before falling behind in the second half and losing 80-76.  DeMarcus led his team with 16 points in 25 minutes.  James Gist had 11 points.  In the win, former Texas high Schooler Marcelo Huertas had 22 points, ex-Xavier player Justin Doellman had 12 points and 6 rebounds, and Alex Abrines, the 32nd pick of the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2013, had 11 points.
