Duke Basketball Overseas 10/8/15

10/12/2015

On Monday, Andre Dawkins made his overseas debut as Torino started the season in Italy.  After a season with some bench time in the NBA and a significant part of the season in the D League, Andre heads overseas with the opportunity to showcase his abilities on the court.  Torino was just promoted to the top division from the second division last season.  His teammates include ex-Florida State player Ian Miller, ex-Rhode Island player Dawan Robinson, injured ex-Indiana player D.J. White, and former Texas high schooler Ndudi Ebi, who had a disappointing NBA career after opting not to attend college.  They had a tough test in their opener, losing 96-72 to Reggiana.  Andre had 2 points in 30 minutes.  Ebi had 18 points and Robinson had 10 points.  In the win, ex-Ohio State player Amadeo Della Valle had 17 points and ex-Seton Hall player Rimantas Kaukenas had 15 points.

Elizabeth Williams did not play in the first Turkish Cup game for Istanbul University as she continues to recover from the injury that ended her WNBA season prematurely.  Turkey is her first overseas destination and the team will probably be patient with her recovery as they have will have to sit a foreign player for domestic games anyway, only being able to use their full strength roster in pan-European competition.  Her teammates include ex-Mississippi State player Tan White.  In this game, they fell short against Besiktas 69-62 as they ran out of steam late.  White had 22 points.
