It's Scalise over Jordan in the race for House Speaker. Now his nomination faces the full vote.
In private balloting at the Capitol, House Republicans pushed aside Rep. Jim Jordan, the Judiciary Committee chairman, in favor of Scalise, the current majority leader, lawmakers said. The Louisiana lawmaker is seen as a hero to some after surviving a mass shooting on lawmakers at a congressional baseball game practice in 2017. He is now battling blood cancer.

“I don’t know how the hell you get to 218," said Rep. Troy Nehls, R-Texas, referring to the majority vote typically needed in the 435-member House to become speaker. “It could be a long week.”
Sounds like several of the MAGAites are still planning to vote for Jordan. Following Dear Leader’s recommendation. (If I could find it, I’d put the popcorn smilie here.)

Big Fish, Big Flip.

Part of Sydney Powell's plea agreement is that she must testify against her other defendants.

Laphonza Butler won't be running for Feinstein's Senate seat. She is the woman currently filling in the seat after being placed there by Governor Newsom.

I guess two weeks is all she needed to see to know that job sucks.

Judge Engoron threatened Trump's lawyers with putting him behind bars this morning.
“In the current overheated climate, incendiary comments can and in some cases already has, led to serious physical harm and worse. I will now allow the defendants to explain why this blatant violation of the gag order would not result in serious sanctions, including financial sanctions and/or possibly imprisoning him,” Engoron said.
The statement stemmed from Trump failing to abide by the gag order that was imposed on him last week.

In other news, Jim Jordan swung and missed for the third straight time. Strike three was extra ugly, as the ball didn't even cross the plate, landing in the dirt before it got there.

I really want a smilie or gif for eating popcorn. The orange felon and his cronies in the House call for it.

wow...I've got to give kudos to Graham for shutting down a Newsmax reporter in Israel. He even tried to kick him out of the press conference.

The Newsmax guy was trying to bait someone into making a statement against Rashida Tlaib.

Now Meadows get immunity in DC. That's a pretty big deal. I wonder if Trump is really sweating, or just fuming?

When he sweats, does he leave an orange trail behind him like Rudy's running hair dye?

I picture him more as not really sweating, but just kind of shedding. Like a Cheetos Pigpen.

How many rounds of House Speaker voting will Mike "Who" Johnson go through today?

Maybe only one, I think they’re exhausted. And he has not been around long enough or been high profile enough to make real enemies in the caucus.

Maybe two, max.

But who knows.

Assholes at work.
Republicans have pushed through an aggressive gerrymander of North Carolina's congressional map that will help them flip several seats in Congress.

Those looming GOP pickups will bolster the party’s chances of defending their narrow House majority next year by erasing or even surpassing Republican losses elsewhere in the South, where courts have begun tossing out congressional lines for diluting the power of Black voters.
I loathe gerrymandering so much. X( X(

Here's a quick result of the GOP gerrymandering that affects not only NC, but the country, as the GOP will pick up a House seat.
Rep. Jeff Jackson (NC) announced that he would instead run for state attorney general, a decision that comes in the wake of gerrymandering by North Carolina Republicans that all but guaranteed he would not have won re-election in his district. “I’m running for attorney general, and I’m going to use that job to go after political corruption,” he said in a video on Thursday.

In the mid-late 90s I wrote a few public policy papers at Duke about gerrymandering in North Carolina - there was the I-85 district that was roughly the width of a highway for some stretches. No one listened to me! Though if I recall correctly, the Dems were actually more the guilty party at the time.

This is the perfect case of technology being used for evil rather than good. It would be so easy to just put everyone in a computer with no tags of race, party, gender, etc. and create a formula to optimize it. Obviously there might be some dispute about some of the nuances of the formula but I think it would get you pretty close. But no one wants to do that.

It looks like GA might balance this out a bit. But regardless of who benefits, it shouldn't hapen.
