Raspberry AF
Saint Arnold - Houston, TX
Fruited Berliner Weisse
ABV: 3.6%
IBU: 7

Color: raspberry
Nose: raspberry
Taste: raspberry

Wonder what that AF stands for? :)
This one is pretty tart and has a dry finish. I like the Rubaeus, which has a bit more sweetness to it, better.

Shout out to Richard for bringing over some world class brews to celebrate amusedcupcake's birthday over the weekend.

Beer #1, and my first Veil beer, Never Never Forever Forever.

I'm not sure what you would consider this, and I do not believe this is a BJCP style, but I'm going to call it a milkshake sour. I'm fairly certain this was brewed with lactose.

Poured like thick orange juice. The backend pour had a small amount of sediment that appeared in the head.

This was super tasty, and absolute explosion of passionfruit. Was this really beer? Tasted like sweet tarts. It drank like a smoothie, and the 5% alcohol was not at all detectable.

A very fun "beer" and one I would love to have again. Cat 3. Thanks, RJ!

Another first for me, this time from Ardent - Sweet Potato & Sage Saison.

Thanks RJ!

I love a good saison, and this is one unlike any I have ever had. More sage spice taste and aroma than sweet potato, which is fine for me. I was afraid it may have been a bit too cloying, but thankfully it wasn't. Very well-balanced. A bit effervescent but very easy drinking. I'd totally drink this again. Solid/high Cat 2. Another very unique beer.

Wise Man Endless Measure

Courtesy of RichadJackson

5.6% Marzen.

This is a very well balanced Marzen. Some tend to be a little more malty (Foothills), but they nailed this one. Wise Man has yet to disappoint. Very high h Cat 2, maybe creeping in to Cat 3 for the style. I believe I still prefer Highland Clawhammer, but just barely. Would love to do a side-by-side with those two.

I couldn't wait any longer. Started with the Orval Ale tonight. Oh man, this is going to be a good week!

Advice to anyone trying the Orval this week - pour as slow as you possibly can. Lots of head that goes nowhere!

But it's worth the wait! What a delightfully complex beer!

The Veil - Deathless

5.5% Marzen

Thanks again, Richard!

Different. The Veil is different, but not in a bad way. A bit of a lingering bitterness that I have never had from a marzen. It will not win any awards for the style, but it was still very enjoyable. High Cat 2, would drink again.

Brown Ale-Legend Brewing Company

Local for the delivery guy.

Credit-Nrrrrvous; thanks!!
Style-3 guesses and the...
Container-pint can
Stemware-nonic pint glass

Ymm, Beer rating-not an exciting style but this is a high quality brew and earns a high cat 2 score; good for pairing with grilled fare (Ymm, Grilling, oh, wait...)

Anyone get their hands on the Yuengling Hershey's Chocolate Porter yet? I'm intrigued. I really enjoy the Yuengling Lager and Golden Pilsner as a cheap "cold beer" to have in the fridge.

Veil Never Never Forever Forever
Double Passionfruit Gose

Love Ninja gets the beer, I get the slushy part.

Love the passionfruit nose.
So fresh, fruity and tropical.

Beer smoothie.
The sourness of the supposed underlying gose style offsets the rich sweetness of the passionfruit nicely.

The finish is just a kiss of salt.

All these Veil beers are an interesting study.
If you were pouring the whole 16oz can in a single glass, the experience would be different.

The clarified pour is brighter, more acidic, and more sour.

The sludgy pour is fruitier, more mellow, and with a heftier mouthfeel.

The clear pour is far more gose like, and extreme.
The sludgy pour is an entity unto itself, unless the oft mentioned beer smoothie is a category.

At risk of “wasting” a Veil beer, I am becoming somewhat interested in a shake before opening approach.

Regardless, another hit from the Veil.

Thanks again, Compass Rose Brew Crew!

No mention of what candy pairs with Trappist beer.

Veil Nevergonnagetit3

Triple Berry Gose

I wonder if Veil has thought about advertising how many servings of fruit you get per can. I may be past my USRDA minimums. :))

Rich magenta purple berry smoothie in the glass

Loads of ripe raspberry in the nose.

I am almost glad I don’t have easy access to Veil beer as it might accelerate not recognizing myself in the mirror.

Damn good.

There is a tempered nature to the berry sweetness that reminds me of fruited yogurt.

Veil. Its. Just. That. Good.

I have to fight the urge to spend $75-80 on 4-four packs every week. Veil is always interesting, tasty and different.

Then whatever you do, don't look at what is being released this week...

Fullsteam The Path Forward DIPA

Amber in the glass. So-so head.

Faint pine nose.

A little bit of maple syrple maltiness yields to some old school west coast IPA bitterness.

Still fairly soft and mellow for the (supposed) style.

Likely would have raved about it 5-7 years ago.

Will go well with the simmering butter chicken on the stove.

I've seen Untappd reviews suggesting mixing some Veil beers a bit, though I think I was reading about a different Veil beer when I saw that. Maybe stirred not shaken
