I need printer help please...
I feel so stupid. My dad gave me an old lexmark printer that he never opened because we need a new printer. I went through all the steps to connect it to wifi. It's connected. My computer is connected to the same wifi network. However, the printer told me to connect it to the computer with USB for like two seconds during setup to get it onto wifi. I did so, and now the settings on my computer will only treat it as a USB printer and can't "find it" on wifi. I'm so frustrated. I know it's a simple fix, but NOTHING I find on the internet addresses my problem at all. I've downloaded the latest drivers and firmware. I've tried adding a port to its settings on my computer. Put in the correct IP address for it, but the port refuses to come into existence when I hit ok. Seriously, I'm ready to throw the damn thing in the trash. I've never been able to get a wireless printer to work, but we really need one right now and I'm at my wit's end. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man, that sucks.
Vibes that you can get it to work. If I had any advice I would give it.

Holy crap! I think I got it to work. I found a port that said "lexmark pro200-5000x" or something like that. I clicked on it. Under devices and printers, it still calls it USB, and it still says it's offline. However, I can communicate with the printer and print to it and scan from it despite this. So, cross my fingers and toes, I THINK I got it to work. We shall see if it continues to work. Anybody know how to get it to say Online and switch from USB to network on its name, WITHOUT me destroying the tiny progress I've made? ;)

Since you know the printer is successfully connected to the network (thus the need for the USB in the first place, to program it offline), I would uninstall it entirely from your computer, and then reinstall using the "add printer wizard". If you are using Windows 10, adding a network printer can be goofy, because you have to type in "advanced printing" in the search bar to bring up that option. But...it should get you working without any reference to a USB port.

Ok. I'm on Windows 7, but I know how to add a printer. I'm dumb, but not that bad... yet.

Haha! Same principle still applies, though. Delete the printer, then re-add using the add printer wizard. Windows 7 is good for finding network printers on its own.bjornolf wrote:Ok. I'm on Windows 7, but I know how to add a printer. I'm dumb, but not that bad... yet.

Most people say that is it is the intellect which makes a great scientist. They are wrong: it is character.
