I like 'em too, except you gotta explain what they are.
I'm assuming you mean these three...
1. Blocking/ charging under the rim. Basically the defensive player has to establish position away from underneath the basket. This is equivalent to the NBA rule, but they aren't drawing the line (literally).
2. The opposing team coach picks the guy who will shoot the free throw for the injured player. I LOVE THIS, and am soooo looking forward to seeing it used. My guess, "injuries" will drop off drastically.
3. The refs can use instant replay more to decide whether a foul was flagrant or not. I know that one Miami guy got his ass tossed out of Cameron this year because the refs reviewed the play, even though it wasn't officially a rule yet.

I love the new rules, except that there was a part of the Free throw one that I saw that the opposing coach gets to choose of one of the four players on the court. What does that mean?
Oh, Zeller wishes he could be as good as Zoubek.

Re: New Rules for 09/10
I haven't seen the rule in print, but from what you wrote, I assume it just means that the opposing coach has to choose one of the four teammates of the injured player that were playing when he was injured. This is to prevent the coach from picking a scrub at the end of the other team's bench, I guess. I don't see this cutting down on injuries too much. There are only a few teams I've seen that have used this rule in the last few years, and very few teams I have seen that I thought were abusing it. One was UConn. I guess they could also have changed the rule so that the injured players coach still chose but the player that is chosen must have a lower free throw percentage than the injured player.Hancock4Duke wrote:I love the new rules, except that there was a part of the Free throw one that I saw that the opposing coach gets to choose of one of the four players on the court. Re: New Rules for 09/10
If the area under the basket where the new blocking/charging rule is effective isn't "literally" marked off, won't that lead to a good amount of missed calls? The area "under the basket" seems vague. Considering the actual "basket" is only about 1ft. 5 inches in diameter, what will constitute "under the basket"? Or are they just going to base it off of where the line would be if they were in the NBA?

You are on target sir. There will be much consternation over this point.

If we're going to shit all over Karl Hess, in fairness to officials as a group, we should recognize the greatness of Ted Valentine.

Has anyone ever had so much disdain for the people he calls fouls on? You commit a foul on TV's court and you get the death stare

1. His propensity to call fouls from 30-40 feet away.rockymtn devil wrote:Hahahaha. What do you have against Ted Valentine?devildeac wrote:Yea, go ahead and get me another load of manure. 2. His "appearance" to be "bigger than the game" he's calling.
3. He doesn't give us "all the calls."
