Smile Scholarship

Post by Rolvix » May 31st, 2009, 11:16 pm

So I figured I would copy this over to the crazietalk forums...:

Hey fellow DBR (crazietalk) members. I recently applied for a few scholarships through the website Zinch, an awesome tool for college-bound students. Many of them don't take too much effort, and considering that I'm not even a senior (yet) I don't need to start doing legitimate, lengthy ones. I did, however, sign up for one through the website Brickfish Social Media. It involves submitting a picture of the person applying, and in that picture they must be smiling. A pretty neat, fun scholarship through which I could earn up to $500 towards college (Hopefully Duke!!), and if I DO in fact win, the Zinch website will match that amount because I registered through their website. $1000 towards Duke barely scratches the surface but it would be a great start.

If you would be so kind as to visit this website and vote for this picture, I would be much obliged!

http://www.brickfish.com/Pages/PhotosAl ... 6&scid=438

The "Vote" button should be just under the ranking/score box. Thanks again!

Hey CellR, welcome to crazietalk. Saw your thread on DBR before I finally left and had voted often. Figured since I'd been gone for a while (over a month now) the thread would be buried. Glad you posted it over here.

Thanks Tilly!
I'm sort of curious why everyone left...
Or is it something that would be better discussed over PM's?

We are very open here, so no PM required, although the gist of why we are here is layed out in the House Regulations thread. We've done a number with Wilson's family related dog and his voting, so I'm sure we can do a number with yours as well.

I suppose they think of things like that when it involves money... Sadly

But thanks for trying! :-bd

You can vote multiple times - I'm not sure how long you have to wait.

I have voted twice today - and you have moved from 90 to 83! Keep voting people!

One more vote in CellR's column. #85 out of 23,000+ entries...not bad. But we gotta keep bumping that sucker up.

I really don't think the voting is entirely accurate on that web site.
There are 2,600 views, and almost 400 votes. I'm pretty sure more of those 2,600 people have voted, because it isn't too easy to stumble upon that website by chance. :-\

But, I know the voting works sometimes - so keep it up! :D

He's fallen to 102 when I just looked. Shoot. I just put in my vote, though.

CellR, are you in New Bern? Home of The Bears?

Let me preface this by saying that I'm old enough to be your mother. In fact, I'm probably older than your mother.

I went to New Hanover High School. Our athletic teams used to play New Bern when I was in high school. We were in the same conference with Laney, Hoggard, Eastern Wayne, Southern Wayne, Goldsboro, Jacksonville, Kinston and New Bern High Schools. There weren't very many big high schools in the southeastern part of the state back then. I traveled a lot to New Bern with our football and basketball teams. I was a cheerleader and in the band.

It's a nice little town you have there on the water.

I live in Greenville now. We're practically neighbors, although I know 2 posters here who live closer to you than I do.

Yes she does! If you ever are in town and want a ride to a football game, give us a shout. We pass by "your house" anyways.

I play soccer and tennis (might switch to lacrosse this year) and we usually play New Hanover in preseason. Although this coming year we are switching to a new conference with New Hanover, Ashley, Laney, Hoggard, Rose, and us... No more easy games.
My grandparents live in Greenville, and are both hardcore Duke fans. One was a history professor at ECU until a few years ago. New Bern is a nice town :) I enjoy living here, even if some of my friends think it's too boring. Greenville seems like a nice place to live as well.

That would be awesome.
I'm going to try to attend a lot of Duke sporting events this year, because I don't know if I will be able to or not in the coming years, depending on what college I go to.

I'll definitely give you a shout if I can go to any, thanks!
