Wow, just wow. I haven't been on this board in a week or so, due in part to the issue that prompted this thread. I get on the board tonight just for a little relaxation and see this. Wow.
My father , who is 75 and not in great health to begin with, developed a blood clot in his lower leg. Having had gout before he (mis) self-diagnosed the swelling and pain and, thinking it was another gout flare-up left it untreated for too long. When his cardiologist saw it (on an unrelated "regular" visit to his cardiologist) he sent him directly to a vascular surgeon. Though efforts were made, it was too late and his leg was amputated at the knee on Monday. He is still too deep in morphine-land for us to have an idea of his emotional state, though clearly issues of depression are likely. I am exhausted, but this thread helps.
Thanks guys! This was a much needed boost for me, and therefore indirectly for my dad (to whom I will not try to explain internet BB culture, I'll just let him know my good friends have been sending thoughts and prayers).
