Re: Brett Favre to retire YET AGAIN
I've actually considered taking him, or Roethelisberger, with the next-to-last pick of the draft. I've got Schaub, so unless disaster, I only need the backup for the bye week. On the off chance Favre comes back, or Roethlisberger is stellar after his suspension ends, I've got very good value for the 15th round. After Schuab's bye week, Favre/Ben could serve as an insurance plan, or be traded to a team with a QB injury for something else I need.Miles wrote:I'm so glad I won't be tempted to pick Brett Favre.throatybeard wrote:I'm glad I didn't take Sidney Rice in the 3R of the fantasy draft I'm in.
I'm not saying I'll do it, but it's something to think about.

Re: Brett Favre to retire YET AGAIN
I think Big Ben would be a solid pick if he weren't out for 6 games to start..if he goes down with injury any time after his return then you're out of luck..and he usually gets beaten up pretty well in the season. He's a big gamble.throatybeard wrote:I've actually considered taking him, or Roethelisberger, with the next-to-last pick of the draft. Who does FFL picks this early? In both my leagues we won't pick until we're within the final two weeks before the season opens. Way too much uncertainty this early in August.

I've thought about the same thing for Roethelisberger, but was already tempted to take Favre earlier in the draft.throatybeard wrote:I've actually considered taking him, or Roethelisberger, with the next-to-last pick of the draft. Beggingtodiffer. They do an offline draft, and I think in past years it got pretty close to the start of the season and looked like it might not get finished, so they moved up this year.DukeUsul wrote:Who does FFL picks this early? Re: Brett Favre to retire YET AGAIN
Hopefully they didn't pick him as their primary QB and have him just as a backup as throaty was discussing and I was considering.TillyGalore wrote:What happens to the poor schlubs who did pick Favre in FFL? Are the SOL?

I grew up with some Yiddish in my family. I always learned it as ZHLUB. When did it become SCHLUB?TillyGalore wrote:What happens to the poor schlubs who did pick Favre in FFL? Are the SOL?

I didn't grow up with any Yiddish in my family so I spelled it the best I could. ;) ;)Lavabe wrote:I grew up with some Yiddish in my family. I always learned it as ZHLUB. When did it become SCHLUB?TillyGalore wrote:What happens to the poor schlubs who did pick Favre in FFL? Are the SOL?
I figured if schmuck and schmooze started with "sch" then logically zhlub would start with "sch". I was wrong, mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.

I just saw an online dictionary that has SCH as an alternate spelling... but I'll guess I'll defer to the god of colchar, err OXFORD, to let me know how it should be spelled.TillyGalore wrote:I didn't grow up with any Yiddish in my family so I spelled it the best I could. ;) ;)Lavabe wrote:I grew up with some Yiddish in my family. Re: Brett Favre to retire YET AGAIN
The fantasy league I am in drafts pretty close to the season, but all the fantasy football magazines and shows are going full steam.
I still think Favre will come back at some point this year. I wouldn't believe him if he Tweeted the sun rose in the East.

Re: Brett Favre to retire YET AGAIN
I'm wondering when Fav-ruh announces this was all a hoax. ESPN is now being REALLY careful to say that these are "reports," even showing interviews with friends/coaches saying that he hasn't said anything to them.

Re: Brett Favre to retire YET AGAIN
1. I'll believe it after the Vikings' bye week in week 4. That'll give his ankle more time to heal.
2. Reports are that he's texted this to his friends on the team. He's yet to notify his head coach or management. Remember, he swore he was retired to the media last time two days before his deadline, then reversed two weeks later.
3. Can I ban people for posting in this thread? ;)

Re: Brett Favre to retire YET AGAIN
No way Favre doesn't play this season. As the Pro Football Talk post linked above nicely says, this current "story" is about (1) feeding Favre's narcism by making him the story for the next month and making the Vikings crawl on the floor and beg him to come back (which took about 13 hours) and (2) providing a neat, built-in excuse if Favre has a bad season.
Flashback to July 28, 2009--at the start of Vikings camp, Favre informs Brad Childress that his shoulder hasn't healed properly and that he won't be able to play the 2009 season. Replace shoulder with ankle, and yesterday's news is deja vu all over again.
