EarlJam can afford to be mighty proud of himself, in that his name, missing lo these many months, is still so engrained into their pysche. Quite irreverent, indeed.
I go there so seldom, but a little more often lately. I can understand their feeling of being put off by an upstart alternative.
CB&B, your response to them was very well put. However, the powers that be OY should be completely understanding of the monster they have created and the natural response to it that is born from a desire for more freedom.
Freedom. Whoopee!

Also, since when did their mods forget how to click the thread and read so they would know that perhaps, a subject wasn't written elsewhere?
Are the members so dense that they don't know there are other places to multi-post and don't have the intelligence to make the determination that they might should?

The more I read his post the more it turns me off...I didn't catch it at first..but it is very heavy on the "us vs. you" overtones. At least he said what he wanted to, and I'll give him the props for voicing his concerns, but there is something about the tone of it.DukePA wrote:The pretentious piling up OY never ceases to make me Lurking for the "vicarious thrill?"

Everyone has their times that they must vent in one fashion or another,
I, for one, am glad there's a place where EJ can go,(as well as the rest of us) in order to turn loose such a demon of worry as shitting at the dinner table. We all know how painful that can be.

Re: WTF happened to over yonder?!
So let me see if I understand Jason "fill in the blank" Evans:
If you have something to say, post it in a thread other than the LTE, then report the post, thereby attracting the attention of the mods, and then THEY'LL decide where it goes. OR privately PM the mods and ask them where it should go.
NOW HOLD ON THAR....
won't that create MORE work for the mods? For that matter, do I REALLY want StrayGator telling me where the hell I should post?
Almost makes me prefer the old CODE days of the old board.
Are they really hard up to "integrate some interesting content back into the DBR" ?
Here's one thought that might accomplish that goal...
STOP OVERMODERATING!!
I just DON'T understand them one freakin' bit.

The more things change the more they stay the same.
I caught the subculture reference when I read it. I'm surprised he mentioned this place by name but managed to restrain himself from telling everyone in the LTE to fuck off over to here.

Re: The "Seriuos Post" on LTE
First, let me say that I have never been as proud as EJ as I am right now. EJ,
My second thought is that I am glad this bit of rubbish is published online, so that no trees sacrificed their lives for its printing. What sanctimonious hogwash. Do I read this correctly? Those on LTE should consider whether their posts might have some merit elsewhere, and contact the moderators for an assessment? Are we to infer that those on LTE cannot be expected to understand whether their information might have value to another reader?
I don't think I have ever posted on LTE, but I would not call my involvement there lurking for a vicarious thrill. I check out the LTE, the same way I check out other threads on DBR. And I have wondered about the excessive, and inconsistent, moderation over there for a long time.
Finally, let me say that I am very grateful for CB&B and anyone else involved in the formation of CTN, our humble little community where we can be ourselves. I am grateful for the friends I have here, and for a place where we can share our life's happinesses and find a sympathetic ear when we need someone to turn to, and where we have the love of all things Duke to tie us together.

Okay, I replied to the LTE thing, and I'm wondering exactly what kind of response I'm going to get.
In the meantime, since I've posted OY, can some of you give me some reputation?

Re: WTF happened to over yonder?!
While I agree with what much of what everyone is saying in this thread.... to be completely honest, there is an "us vs. you" thing going on here. And we do it all the time too. So if we want to get on them for sanctimonious BS, great, but I think we all have to agree there's been an "us vs. you" thing going on for a while.CameronBornAndBred wrote:The more I read his post the more it turns me off...I didn't catch it at first..but it is very heavy on the "us vs. you" overtones. Thanks for the reputation points! I have 29 points OY! (I have no idea whether that is good or bad, but I'm just excited to have the votes.)

Re: WTF happened to over yonder?!
We started CTN because of the us vs. them atmosphere created with the excessive and inconsistent moderation over there. To me, the main difference is that we've been up front about it and never pretended otherwise. We didn't want to play by their rules so we created our own community which to me is more like the "neighborhood pub" atmosphere they claim to want DBR to be. I guess it is rather difficult to maintain when your membership is so huge. Oh well. I'm glad to be home and as others feel, more proud of EJ than ever
