This afternoon's sirloins were medium to medium rare. For a change, we didn't do any marinade or anything, just some Montreal steak and salt and pepper, with grilled vegetable kabobs, wild brown rice from the bins at the Fresh Market, tossed salad with Asian ginger dressing, and (the one slight downer) a not-great Merlot. We have now finished the grass (I mowed the front yard and Bruce ran the weedeater) and after my shower it will be time for a nap. :-o i-)

Kelly and I picked up a Pinot Noir only to discover it was corked. :-( So we went into our collection and opened a 2005 L'Aventure Optimus. It saved the day.

"Corked" doesn't mean sealed with a cork, it means the wine has been tainted after it's been bottled. In other words, it was good when it went in, but it came out bad. In fact, it was especially foul.

Ah. It had turned to vinegar.

Wow! There's a rumor I hadn't expected! The lawgrad family and the Miles family haven't had the pleasure of dining together at this point. We're enjoying great steaks and putting up with skunky wines vicariously, perhaps even simultaneously, but not together.

On the subject of wines...does anyone know where I might find Ernie Els Guardian Peak wines? Neither Total Wine or Winestyles, the two big local places, have it. I saw on the website where I could order it from South Africa, but haven't been able to find anyplace in NC that has it. Or VA, for that matter.

Well, you might ask Ernie that question at the US Open week after next. Or ask him why can't you buy it locally, which would certainly help his sales...

Ernie's Website shows that Terlato Wines is their USA Agent. Their website has a Wine Finder that shows Wine Com carries it in Durham. There's also a retail outlet in Charlotte. I'd be happy to pick up a case for you and bring it to a brunchgate if you can't find it at Wine Com or near you. Good luck.

Thanks, Miles! We do make to Charlotte on occasion, but I may take you up on your kind offer to bring some to Brunchgate.
