Good stuff EJ. I wish I had been in Wembley for this. Dave drops the f-bomb a lot, so fair warning to those that might be offended.

Angus has always been badass. There is a reason (well a couple of them actually) that I play the same guitar as Angus (although mine doesn't have the tailpiece that his does). I'm also surprised to see that Malcolm has all of the pickups installed on his Gretsch in that video as he is famous for removing one and stuffing the cavity with a sock (that's why his tone is so unique).

I did not know that about Malcom. Cool. Guess this helped with the crunchier, muted sound? Love it.colchar wrote:Angus has always been badass. In the other video, I also love how cool Slash of G&R is at both the 1:20 mark (when someone in the crowd tries to grab his hand while playing (he stays cool) and at the 3:27 mark (when the guy gets up on stage and Slash just shuffles and laughs). Awesome. I've been to concerts of local bands where if either of the two happened, the guitar player would only make it worse by transforming from a "bad ass" to a "douche gonger" by pouting. Of course, all that said, Axl certainly has a record of the latter.

Re: Bad Ass Music Performances...
Add this one to the mix (G&R Paradise City - also at The Ritz).

My only complaint is that it lacks energy. They're practically just standing there and don't seem too "into it" - especially at the end. I am being sarcastic. VERY sarcastic. My God. At the 6:17 mark, even Izzy is like, "Holy sh*t!" One second later and Slash goes flying across the stage like a bullet. If this were a basketball game, and G&R were Duke, this was their UNC game at Cameron in March.
Slash's guitar playing at the end of the song is awesome (in style and substance).

If I was a smart aleck, I would make some wisenheimer comment about a definition for good ass music vs bad ass music.

Without looking it up, which other well-known singer from that era came out of the same town in Indiana as Axl?

And it looks like he is playing an actual Gibson Les Paul in that video as opposed to the copy he used to record that album because he couldn't afford a real one at the time.

Malcolm gets that tone/sound because he uses heavy gauge nickel strings (.012-.056) as opposed to the lighter strings favoured by lead guitarists such as Angus who uses nickel plated .009-.042 gauge strings (I use pure nickel .010-.046 gauge strings of the same brand as Angus uses).
The socks in the pickup cavities (the neck and middle pickup cavities) are used primarily to deaden feedback but also to fill out the cavities a bit thus giving a more solid sound than would be the case with gaping holes in the body of the guitar.

Nope.
I'll give you a hint - the band was something of a one hit wonder. But it was a big hit.

Nope, it wasn't any of the guys in Quiet Riot.
Here are some more hints - the guy was a singer and the video of their biggest hit was a huge success.
Here is another one (that you can't look up either) - how long did it take Slash to write the famous intro to Sweet Child O mine?

How could you guess Quiet Riot? They had at least 1.5 hits.EarlJam wrote:Quiet Riot??? (I refuse to look this up! Will keep guessing!)colchar wrote:EarlJam wrote:

I can think of 4-5 off the top of my head but they were definitely a better band when Randy Rhoads was their guitarist and Rudy Sarzo was playing bass for them. When Rhoads joined Ozzy's band he took Sarzo with him. Surprisingly, despite being far better musically with Rhoads and Sarzo, they achieved their greatest commercial success right after they left. Then again, their biggest hits were actually cover tunes originally written by other bands.
Plus, Quiet Riot were a band and I was asking about a singer.
I think I may have EJ stumped on this one so I'll give him another couple of hints - the singer to whom I am referring sang backup on a couple of GnR songs on the Use Your Illusion albums and, IIRC, he appeared in the November Rain video.
I should also point out that I am specifically talking about a singer so Izzy Stradlin, the rhythm guitarist for GnR who grew up with Axl, isn't the correct answer.

I finally caved and did some research. It's gonna be a tough one to figure out with these clues unless you just happen to have those bits of trivia tucked away. Need more hintage.colchar wrote:Miles wrote: How could you guess Quiet Riot? They had at least 1.5 hits.

Agreed. I would like to know: What year was this one hit/video? Was it hard rock? Pop? And perhaps give me one elemant of the video (not something so obvious that it will easily give it away).

Re: Bad Ass Music Performances...
It's rock/alternative rock. Circa 94-95. The singer died of a cocaine overdose. There is only one element of the video that cannot be shared, because it is too obvious of a give away. What could it bee?EarlJam wrote:Agreed. I would like to know: What year was this one hit/video? Was it hard rock? Pop?
