Today's gems:

How important is it for you that this team makes a postseason tournament?
“It means a great deal to me and I think it could be important to us, but we’ve got to play our way into that. There’s no doubt in my mind that I’m still confident that we can go on a run and we can be in the big tournament. It looks a lot more cloudy from what everybody says and being able to look at it realistically, and I can understand that. But that’s what I’m focusing on right now. If not, I’ll be more interested in the ACC Tournament than I’ve ever been interested in it. That’ll get a couple of calls, I’m sure.
On the Ed Davis situation:
“I talked to Ed. I talked to his father. I talked to the agent. I think it was something that was not against the NCAA rules. I think it was something that in their mind was very harmless, very small. But if you are Ed Davis, a basketball player at the University of North Carolina, there’s nothing small and there’s nothing harmless. I brought that out to the team yesterday and made sure that they understood that.
“I’ve had conversations with Ed and Terry throughout the year and after the season is over with, we’ll sit down and talk and I’ll give them my opinion, my recommendation and they get to make the decision. But it was more educational than anything, because I really do believe that it was something that was not nearly as big as it ended up being. But that’s educational too, because it tells you what this world is.”

7 minutes left, the holes losing to BC by 10.

Eagles did their best to blow it, but even they aren't as bad as the holes. Cry, Roy, Cry!CameronBornAndBred wrote:7 minutes left, the holes losing to BC by 10.

Most people say that is it is the intellect which makes a great scientist. They are wrong: it is character.

Re: Dear Carolina
Kidding aside, I think they'll be in the NIT. They're still enough of a draw that any of those tournaments would surely be happy to have them.
I'm not sure they'd even accept a bid to the CBI or the CollegeInsider.com invitational (yes, there's a fourth).

Re: Dear Carolina
I'm not sure the NIT will take them if they don't finish above .500. I don't think it's a rule or anything, but I'm not sure a 15-18 team regardless of who it is will get in, particularly if their are more deserving teams in the same conference. At this point I think the unc-ch/Miami game may decide the last ACC NCAA or NIT post-season participant. Numbers 11 and 12 are either staying home (NCSU) or going to the CBI or collegeinsider tournaments.wilson wrote:Kidding aside, I think they'll be in the NIT. Re: Dear Carolina
This all sounds about right to me, except that I don't think unc will finish 15-18. More likely, they beat Miami and lose to Duke and Wake on the road. For some reason, I think they'll at least give F$U a good game in the Nose Dome. If they manage to steal that one, it leaves them at 16-15 headed into the ACC tourney. Assuming they finish 10th in the regular season (finishing ahead of only Miami and State), that pits them against God-knows-whom in the ACCT first round (likely GA Tech, UVA, or F$U again). Win that, and at 17-16 (assuming a Friday ACC tournament loss), I think they're pretty reasonably in the NIT.Jesus_hurley wrote:I'm not sure the NIT will take them if they don't finish above .500. On the other hand, if they don't beat F$U in the regular season, they probably finish 15-16 (still assuming they beat Miami at home), and they thus need two ACCT wins to finish at .500 headed into the big tournament(s).
I can't believe I just spent that much time breaking down unc NIT scenarios, but man, how much fun is it to spend that much time breaking down unc NIT scenarios?

If they don't make the NIT...
There's a very small chance that I might feel a little bit of pity for them.
Maybe...

Let me rephrase that last statement.
I WILL feel some pity for some of their players. Their fans? Not so much.

David Wear may be done for the season with a torn labrum (insert jokes here ). Travis Wear is practicing and may play against FSU this week.
