Weather Check!

Post by EarlJam » February 5th, 2010, 11:06 am

Okay, LOTs of wild weather going on over the country today. Check in with your status please.

EarlJam - NW Atlanta - Very windy, very dark, very rainy, very cold (but not cold enough to freeze). Nasty.

It's raining here on campus, though it was snowing when I came in at 7am.

With last week's snow still on the ground this latest storm came in late last night while I was returning from Cameron.

It's a wet mix that added several inches earlier today. The weather advisories have changed from higher proportion of ice and accrual to more snow and rain...... continuing into Saturday. There's also a flash flood watch for this area.

I've just cleared the sidewalk and about 2/3 of the driveway before coming in because my coat and hood were getting pretty wet. Second application of ice melt is on the cleared areas so that I've got a safe path out to walk my little dog and also get to the mailbox.

The men's team is flying to Boston today. Hope they have a smooth flight and a great win!

With about 3 inches left of the last snow here South of DC in Virginia, it just started snowing. We're supposed to get another 18-24 inches by tomorrow night. We're gonna be buried. It's also not supposed to break freezing until Monday, and there's a 40% chance of more snow on Tuesday. When including the storm back in December, this is DEFINITELY the biggest snow year we've had in a LONG time.

Gray and chilly in central NJ. No precipitation yet, but it smells like snow, and we're predicted to get 4-8" by tomorrow.

That's cool about the snow smell. I can usually tell if it will snow vs. rain depending on how the air smells.

We were supposed to have a light dusting this am and flurries off and on during the day. I don't think what is currently coming down classifies as a flurry. We are now getting the fluffy flakes sticking to the ground. The roads appear to be ok from the office window but I'll find out later.

We had a dusting of something frozen in Durham this morning before I woke up. Now it's gross, cold and rain. Cold and rainy sucks. I wish it were snowing.

37º and dropping. Steady rain all night and day. Our house is surrounded by water. It makes quite an effective moat should the Black Knight attempt an assault on our keep.

I'm glad I work for home; feel bad for Kelly having to commute in this crap.

In Greensboro we had some snow/ice this morning but it has now turned to mostly rain for the rest of the day and tomorrow. Very Yucky. One good thing was work closed today! :)

Yeah, I can't describe it, but it's something very distinct in the air.

I went to the grocery store last night, so we should be set for the weekend. I had to drive in last weekend's snow in NoVa, and it was no fun! I just want to stay home and have snowball fights with the kids for this one.

It's raining in Kenansville. It's 41 degrees. I'll take this over a big snow.

North of the Mason-Dixon line we are supposed to be immune from this kind of stuff. Right now, 17:25 EST, it is bone dry out. NOTHING is happening. Weather clowns calling for 4" in the evening and another 4 - 8" overnight. BUT NOTHING IS HAPPENING OUTSIDE.

Here's what's happening inside:
All kids activities Fri night (7:00 hoops game) and all day Saturday cancelled. (I get the Saturday cancellations, at least in the morning.)
My job closed at 3PM today. (I'm still here - wrapping up now).
The gym is closing at 7 tonight (3 hours early).

NOT A SINGLE DROP, FLAKE, OR PELLET WATER-BASED FORM OF PRECIPITATION HAS FALLEN.

Truly we Pennsylvanians are turning into wusses. Yeesh.

Well as you can imagine, the day is really, really really cloudy and dreary and rainy ugly here on the dump where most all the neighbors are in moods to match. And that's truly "dank"! :D

That somehow brings to mind something from yesterday. A friend who works in Carrboro called me very excited about some news he got from his "uniform man." The uniform salesman was telling him that Dean Smith had just been taken by ambulance to the ER at UNC hospitals, possible broken leg. People watched in horror as he was taken inside on a stretcher. Apparently Coach Smith had been up on a ladder at the Dean Dome and fell...... he was taking down the letters that spell Dean E. Smith. =)) :)) :asleep: :tease: :violin:
