Re: Whatis Your Favorite Salad Dressing?
Good stuff. But my favorite is to MIX thousand island (or Russian, if you're from up north) and french (or catalina). Ymm! I do it all the time. I saw my mother do it circa 1977 when she and my dad visited me in Winston Salem for the first time and we went out to dinner at (dang, I can't remember the name of the restaurant, it was a really nice steak house on Reynolda Road, owned by the same guy that owned Sam's on Stratford Rd, and there is also a steak house in Charlotte that he owned). Anyway, I thought she was crazy and told her so. Next time I ate out (when not in her eyesight ;) ) I tried it. Been eating it that way ever since! My momma wasn't so dumb after all!CameronBornAndBred wrote:Catalina makes me think of the Rathskeller. Mmmmmmmmmmm

It kind of depends on the greens being used...

Re: Whatis Your Favorite Salad Dressing?
Give me iceberg lettuce. None of that fancy shit - thems are weeds! Carrots, cucumber, green bell pepper, tomatoes, a little vidalia or purple onion and a few croutons, and I'm happy. Oh, and I like raisins and maybe a little chopped pineapple if you want to get fancy and sweeten it up! With the above dressing combination.YmoBeThere wrote:It kind of depends on the greens being used...

You put raisins and pineapple on salad and you call any other kind of lettuce "fancy shit?"OZZIE4DUKE wrote:Give me iceberg lettuce. None of that fancy shit - thems are weeds! Oooh, that does sound good. Another favorite of mine is totally new to me. (Tons of dressings nowadays). It's Green Goddess...damn that's tasty. And green.OZZIE4DUKE wrote: Good stuff. But my favorite is to MIX thousand island (or Russian, if you're from up north) and french (or catalina). Ymm!

Re: Whatis Your Favorite Salad Dressing?
Where do you get the Green Goddess dressing? I haven't seen any of that in YEARS! I have some recipes that use Green Goddess dressing, and I'd love to be able to find it at the store.
Hidden Valley Ranch is my favorite dressing.

I will regularly go with Ranch, can't go wrong there, but have been known to be flexible with the other flavors also!

ITA. And it has to be homemade Hidden Valley Ranch. Bottled ranch dressing has a nasty aftertaste. Not sure what it is, but it's nasty.CathyCA wrote:Where do you get the Green Goddess dressing? YBT is right; it depends on the greens. Fer yer basic salad though, I'll go with Bacon and Tomato, the creamy one not the tangy one.

Re: Whatis Your Favorite Salad Dressing?
When at home, I only use French or Thousand Island. If I am at my favourite restaurant, The Olde Spaghetti Factory, I get their French which is somewhere between normal French and Thousand Island but is completely smooth (ie. no bits in it). That dressing is a gift from God. Seriously.
When in Britain I only eat Thousand Island as their French is really weird compared to the North American version. But their Thousand Island is way better than ours - it is actually quite spicy and, surprisingly, the supermarket's own version is better than any others (at least the Tescos stuff is).

Is this part of the same chain of restaurants here in the US, or is it a different restaurant completely?colchar wrote:If I am at my favourite restaurant, The Olde Spaghetti Factory, <snip>

Is it ironic that Colchar likes French dressing? Is that French dressing Canadian, or Canadien?colchar wrote:When at home, I only use French or Thousand Island. Until you asked, I had always thought it was a Canadian company but, as it turns out, it isn't. The first location opened in Portland in 1969 and the first Canadian location opened in 1970. I checked a couple of menus from American locations and our menus are different. But if the American ones sell the same French dressing get it the next time you are there. Trust me.
