Why is gross, gross?

For example, food in the teeth. Most people will agree that food in the teeth is a repulsive sight to behold. But why? I'm not talking about three-day-old food in the teeth. I'm talking about, we-just-sat-down-for-a-fresh-salad-and-you-have-a-chunk-of-black-olive-in-your-bicuspids old food.

Why is it so gross?

Because it wasn't born there. At least boogers hang out in their place of birth...but they are gross too.
Duke born, Duke bred, cooking on a grill so I'm tailgate fed.
