Hmm, "Highway to the Danger Zone"? Maybe, I'll give it a shot. Just watched that movie on Thanksgiving Eve (it's always good to throw in the DVD player while playing Scrabble.)Devil in the Blue Dress wrote:Sound track from "Top Gun"

Hmm, can't say that either really fits - but the first set is closer, but a bit too happy. But if they work for you when you're bumming, great!Bostondevil wrote:Am I trying to cheer myself up from this shitty day or do I want to wallow in self pity?
If I'm trying to cheer myself up:
'Walking on Sunshine' - Katrina and the Waves
'Cynical Girl' - Marshall Crenshaw
'Soak Up the Sun' - Sheryl Crow
Any upbeat Beatles song
'Love Fool' - The Cardigans
Wallowing in self-pity:
'Crazy Mixed-Up Kid' or 'Strangers When We Meet' - The Smithereens
'Hey Jude' - The Beatles
'Reconsider Me' or 'When the Heartache Comes' - Warren Zevon
Anything by Patsy Cline
'Ferry Cross the Mersy' - Gerry and the Pacemakers (Did I spell that right?)
'Jack of All Parades' - Elvis Costello
'The Prettiest Girl in Camden Town' - Gary somebody, the album cover is red. I'll look it up and post his last name later.

Don't know the first one, but ooh, Elton John - perfect! Going on the list!ArkieDukie wrote:"High School Never Ends" by Bowling for Soup always makes me laugh. At my former job this particular song used to pop up on my play list at highly appropriate times. "The B!tch is Back" by Elton John is another goodie that used to come up on random shuffle mode at very opportune moments. Believe me, it's very difficult to NOT laugh when you're working away in the lab, your supervisor walks in, and either of the two previously mentioned songs starts playing on your iPod. Maybe it's only funny if you've experienced something like my former job.

Well, I was hoping the capitalization would clarify.ArkieDukie wrote:There's another way to read the title of the thread, you know. Paging Shamm and/or EarlJam to the Bad Mood music thread...
Otherwise, the thread would have been titled, "bad Mood Music." ;)
But I gotta think any Disney soundtrack would qualify for that list....

Re: Bad Mood music
OK, Lovelies, when you were at Duke (or in college somewhere) did all the guys steal 'The Best of Bread' from their mothers like when I was in college? I always knew a guy was about to make his move when he brought out 'The Best of Bread'. Hint to you clueless wonders, 'The Best of Bread' was your MOTHER'S album, it did nothing for me. For me at least, you would have done a lot better with Van Morrison.
So, to me, the epitome of Bad "Mood Music" is Bread. You'd never find my diary underneath a tree.

I'm not a fan of any Nu Metal or any of the stuff coming out of any of the Nordic countries as I see them as nothing more than bad imitations of '80s bands like Venom and Celtic Frost.
But yeah, getting drunk and rocking out would be a good time.

I loathe Nu Metal, but I tend to think of that crap as (sadly) originating in the States. Either way, I wasn't referring to Nu Metal. There's plenty of Death and Thrash Metal that came out of the Nordic countries in the 80's and is still coming out today that honors pioneers like Celtic Frost.colchar wrote:Miles wrote: Dude. For whatever reason, I just never got into that stuff. I'm not sure why. Maybe I just thought that it didn't measure up to other '80s metal - I'm thinking specifically of many of the NWOBHM bands who I thought set the standard.

Re: Bad Mood music
NWOBHM was great and I definitely think they set a standard, but I also believe that music can evolve and that Heavy Metal has definitely done that throughout the world. I would actually argue it's the only genre, right now, that has stayed true to it's roots while remaining creative. It also produces the best musicians that, perhaps sadly, will never get the recognition they deserve.colchar wrote:Miles wrote: I loathe Nu Metal, but I tend to think of that crap as (sadly) originating in the States. Oh I agree that music can evolve, I just don't particularly like the way metal has evolved. Not sure why as there is no real reason for it, I just don't like it much. By all rights I should love it but I just can't get next to it.
