Happy Thanksgiving CrazieTalkers!
Turkey is on the smoker after a quick run to the store for stuffing. Getting ready to turn on the boob-tube and make a pot of coffee. Hope everyone has a great day with friends and family!

The house is full of young adults! Daughter, son-in-law and a niece all arrived last night! Of course, they'll sleep till almost noon, but then it's off to grandma's house (3 miles across town) for turkey and fixin's! Ymm!
Hope everyone has a happy, filling and safe Thanksgiving weekend.
I look forward to seeing most of you Saturday morning at Brunchgate! To the rest, I wish you were going to be there.

But we are thankful for everything this year... and very thankful for this little electronic neighborhood.

Apple pie is baked. Turkey is thawed. Leaving for RDU in a few minutes to pick up the rents. Having a good time, hope you all are as well.

Taking a break from the kitchen. Corn pudding is ready to go in the oven and then just have to put dressings in the other oven when the turkey comes out. Hope you are all happy and safe and enjoying yourselves this lovely Thanksgiving day.

I carve turkey.YmoBeThere wrote:I crave turkey...
Actually, I do like to carve it. I like to use the method most Food Network people seem to employ. Well, at least I've seen Alton Brown and Bobby Flay do it. First, always leave the turkey to rest for 20 minutes after it comes out of the oven/deep fryer. Carve the entire breast off the bone first. Then slice the breast into pieces across the grain. It's so difficult to slice the breast with the grain into slices while still on the bone - it just falls apart and looks awful. Try it this year. Be different.

Re: Happy Thanksgiving CrazieTalkers!
I read that for the first time this year. Theory says this allows for the juices to distribute and the temperature to rise and even out (fact says a turkey continues to heat after you remove it). Your turkey will supposedly be more dry if you carve too soon.DukeUsul wrote:First, always leave the turkey to rest for 20 minutes after it comes out of the oven/deep fryer.YmoBeThere wrote:I crave turkey...

Re: Happy Thanksgiving CrazieTalkers!
I'm back home following a large gathering of foodies, or so it seemed from the feast we enjoyed! The turkey was perfectly roasted and pleasantly juicy. Side dishes were a abundant as the people.... 2 different sweet potato dishes, mashed potatoes, thick turkey gravy, canned cranberry jelly and fresh cranberry relish, dressing prepared from homemade bread, corn pudding, pineapple casserole, zucchini and yellow squash casserole, deviled eggs, fruit salad, homemade yeast rolls..... I could have missed a side dish. Desserts included pumpkin pies (fresh pumpkin, freshly grated or ground spices, nuts), gingerbread trifle, some sort of cheesecake with caramel drizzled over it, Decadent Toffee Brownies. White and red wines plus bubbly apple juice. Southern Season's Southern Pecan Coffee (90+ octane). Just passing the food took quite a while!
