Congrats to your team Ozzie!...I dislike Philly in pretty much every way imaginable...not the team, the city..so I'll be pulling for your Yanks. Plus, I do believe they are the underdog for the series.

Thanks CB&B! You think the Yanks are the underdogs? Really? That's OK with me!

From what I've read and heard, that's the case. I'd rather be a underdog any day.

What's up guys? Congrats Ozzie. I am a Reds fan and we were eliminated at the All Star Break (seems like it). It was a pretty solid SPORTS weekend for you HUH. :ymapplause: As a RED I will be pulling for the National League. But as a baseball fan, I am looking for a great Series. Again congrats, and good luck to the Yanks.

As we saw in the bottom of the eighth inning last night, the "ghosts" are in the new House! Including this one!

I was thinking more of the two sacrifice bunt play errors - first dropping the throw to first and then throwing the second one into right field! I could almost see the Mick directly influencing those plays!

Ghosts are ghosts...and they help when/where they can.

I saw the last time Mantle ever played in Yankee stadium (although it was an old timers game) 100 in the shade...Whitey Ford pitching....0-2 count on Mantle - then Whitey looked at Mickey and Mickey looked at Whitey and they smiled at each other...next pitch was letters high right down the center of the plate...Holy Cow home run. To say the place went nuts would be an understatement!!!!!

So many of the 'oldsters' were dehydrated afterward that many of them didn't actual play again after that day - they'd put on the uniform and come out on the field but not play.

Old timers game or not - I'll never forget it.

I remember hearing about that, but sadly wasn't there. The only Mantle home run I witnessed in person was his last - #536 in September 1968. But I am so glad I got to see at least one!

I was at the Stadium the day they retired his number - June 8, 1969 - between games of a double header! I get choked up just thinking about it!

From Wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mickey_Mantle
On Mickey Mantle Day, June 8, 1969, in addition to the retirement of his uniform Number 7, Mantle was given a plaque that would hang on the center field wall at Yankee Stadium, near the monuments to Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, and Miller Huggins. The plaque was given to him by Joe DiMaggio, and Mantle then gave DiMaggio a similar plaque, telling the crowd, "His should be just a little bit higher than mine." When Yankee Stadium was reopened in 1976 following its renovation, the plaques and monuments were moved to Monument Park, behind the left-center field fence. Shortly before his death, Mantle videotaped a message to be played on Old-Timers' Day, which he was too ill to attend. He said, "When I die, I wanted on my tombstone, 'A great teammate.' But I didn't think it would be this soon." The words were indeed carved on the plaque marking his resting place at the family mausoleum in Dallas. On August 25, 1996, about a year after his death, Mantle's Monument Park plaque was replaced with a monument, bearing the words "A great teammate" and keeping a phrase that had been included on the original plaque: "A magnificent Yankee who left a legacy of unequaled courage."
