Refereeing

I've decided that I'm going to be a high school football referee. I love the game, and I miss playing it. I think it'll be a fun way to stay active and get back on the playing field. Does anyone have an experiences with this, or happen to know any refs?

No experience, don't know any refs. I do think this is a great idea. I'll bet you will be a good red. Lord knows, high school ball needs good ones. Good Luck to youl.

That sounds like a lot of fun! Sadly, most of my memorable experiences with refs aren't very positive. $:-\$

I guess it's good to not be memorable...

I respect anyone who wants to be a ref. Good luck to you. God knows I didn't give them any respect in my playing days.

The last straw was when I was late hit three plays in a row with no call so I called the kid a "dirty fuck" and I got flagged for it. Through my 9 years of football it was my only personal foul and it happened on senior night for something that shouldn't have been called. Should I have said it? No. But compared to all the crap that goes uncalled what I said was ridiculous for a 15 yarder. Yes I'm still bitter...

But we did win that game 55-13.

Sounds like a lot of fun. I've thought about refereeing.

I have a co-worker who used to referee Div III football. One day he got called and asked to ref a scrimmage during Redskins training camp. He was a side judge I think. I remember him telling me he pretty much swallowed the whistle, as he was scared to death of calling anything on Champ Bailey.

Thanks, I'm sure I'll need it. I can also practice throwing flags at you and penalizing you 15 minutes no cheese plate for unsportsmanlike conduct.

How freaking cool. I've already entertained the thoughts of how cool it would be to ref a college game or something bigger. We'll see though.
