I'm still not sold on Favre. After last night, the media has come around and declared him back to old Favre. To paraphrase former President Bush, fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice...you can't get fooled again. After the Jets' huge Monday Night win against New England in Week 11 last season, the media wrote the same sort of stuff they've been rushing to print today. But a funny thing happened on the way to the Super Bowl for the Jets. Favre wore down and single-handedly prevented that team from making the postseason. As this season progresses, teams will load the box to stop AP and force Favre to throw downfield, which I don't think he can do (or, better yet, I don't think he will be able to do after about November 1st).

The entire Panther's offense is anemic. The offensive line lacks depth and skill and I don't care who your quarterback is, if you can't protect him he's going to make mistakes. It's a team sport, and the entire team just isn't very good, Jake or no Jake.

I don't think he's been that special of a quarterback either, but you don't have to be to win Super Bowls. Just ask the Ravens, and Bucs. I still think there could be a Super Bowl Trophy in Charlotte if you give him an offensive line that could:
1) Open up holes in the defensive and allow DeAngelo Williams to rush for more than 180 yards in 3 games.
2) Improve upon the 2+ sacks per game they're already allowing.
3) Protect the quarterback long enough so he doesn't have to be hero.

I understand you don't think Delhomme is a good quarterback, but it seems like you're oversimplifying the Panthers' woes. I don't care who your quarterback is, you don't win games with a crappy offensive line. It makes your offensive horribly one-dimensional by taking away the running game, and it puts undue pressure on your quarterback where he will inevitably make the mistakes that we've seen Delhomme make.

The guy did go 16 of 33 for 323 yards, 3 TDs and no INTs in the Super Bowl. The Panthers did not lose that game because of Jake Delhomme. They lost because their defense couldn't stop the Patriots. So...but for the "superlative defense", there would be a Lombardi Trophy in Charlotte, and Delhomme would probably be the owner of a Super Bowl MVP award.

Of course, none of that justifies giving him a new contract before the season began.
