I did decent, luckily. My Sunderland 0 - 1 Wolves pick almost bit me, but luckily I put my Insurance on that one. Turned out Sunderland 5 - 2 Wolves...Lavabe wrote:I didn't know the score this week. I don't think anyone did.

I am getting SO tired of ManU pulling out points in injury time. FWIW, Sir Alec is now terping about officials, blaming ManU's struggles in part on the fitness of the officials.
I wonder when College Park invites Sir Alec to give a guest lecture.

Darren Bent helped me yesterday. As for Gunners, they had BETTER be doing well this week, as my fantasy team depends on a lot of good scoring by them.CellR wrote:Some nice balanced scoring by the Gunners!
And of course, you KNOW what game I'll be watching in 15 minutes!
Can the Reds win at the Bridge this year?

Against Blackburn, it made sense to go with him. I just wish Gallas had done something right.CellR wrote:Oh. Looks like he's mine too!

Still waiting on results of Villa tomorrow.

I dropped Gallas which might turn out to bite me... Vermaelen is scoring so much though.Lavabe wrote:Against Blackburn, it made sense to go with him. I just wish Gallas had done something right.CellR wrote:Oh. Looks like he's mine too!

Re: Soccer, footie, football, futbol
We tied AGAIN last night.
1-0 Ashley in the first half.
We come out and score 3 quick goals. 3-1 us.
They score 2 more ridiculous angle shot.
Overtime, they score on us.
Last play of the game - 10 seconds left our sweeper sends a ball in the box, everyone is in there (even our keeper).
The ball drops about 3 feet away from me, and our forward Si manages to tap it. Rolls off the opposing keepers fingers and into the goal for a 4-4 tie.

World Cup Qualifier Day.
Three games of interest should be:
1) Honduras (home) v. US: Is it possible for the US to wrap up things and win away?
2) Argentina v. Peru: Argentina has had a poor string of games, and may NOT make South Africa, despite playing Messi, Tevez, and Mascherano.
3) Portugal v. Hungary: Portugal is pressing for qualification, but Christian Ronaldo is coming off an injury.

Solid win for Sam's Army tonight (or so it seemed from the highlights of the non-televised game ). Would be nice to beat Costa Rica on Wednesday and win CONCACAF.Lavabe wrote:Honduras (home) v. US: Is it possible for the US to wrap up things and win away?

Re: Soccer, footie, football, futbol
Well... let's just say that a 3-2 away win (ANY away win) is good enough for me. Especially when you look at Honduras's BLOWN penalty kick in the 80something-th minute. That would have tied things, but the guy simply shot it to the moon. Howard had no shot of touching the ball (unless he was Mister Fantastic). Congrats to Donovan and Casey for some GREAT plays. The free kick was FANTASTIC.wilson wrote:Solid win for Sam's Army tonight (or so it seemed from the highlights of the non-televised game ). Bad news: Mexico advances as well.
Other news:
Portugal cruises 3-0 over Hungary, but it looks like C. Ronaldo won't play against Malta, as he went out after 25 minutes. Portugal must beat Malta to qualify.
Wackiest game of the day: Argentina 2-1 Peru. Argentina was ahead 1-0 going into injury time. Peru equalizes. Less than a minute left, Argentina goes ahead for good. Maradona did a belly slide in the mud after the game.

Re: Soccer, footie, football, futbol
Sam's Army has the final qualifier tonight, vs. Costa Rica. As I've previously mentioned, I'd like it if we could win CONCACAF. I would also like us to help Honduras get in for only the second time ever (Honduras has a special place in my heart, as I've traveled there three times)...that would require a Honduras win vs. Trinidad and a Costa Rica loss tonight.
Will Bob Bradley rest regulars tonight, since we've already qualified? No CONCACAF team is likely to get a seed in South Africa, so winning the group may not mean much (confession: I don't know much about standard procedure in this kind of situation).
It will be nice for the game to get the spotlight tonight, with no baseball playoffs or major football action on the docket. General soccer enthusiasm seems to be slowly building around these parts.

Re: Soccer, footie, football, futbol
US ties Costa Rica at home 2-2 with a goal in the 90th+ minute. Glad to see them tie it up (they were down 0-2 much of the game). That's all that was needed to take the top of the CONCACAF table. The US had 20 pts, followed by Mexico at 19pts, followed by Honduras at 16 points. Costa Rica plays Uruguay in playoffs, as Uruguay lost 0-1 at home vs. Argentina, who make it into the World Cup.
US striker Charlie Davies (in hospital due to a tragic car wreck) received a tribute from the fans at the game tonight.

The US probably won't get a seed, which pretty much ensures we'll be in a tough group for the WC. But, still nice to win CONCACAF, especially since we were shaky through much of qualifying.Lavabe wrote:US ties Costa Rica at home 2-2 with a goal in the 90th+ minute. The Charlie Davies story is very sad. He's a guy who had worked his way onto the USMNT roster, and then into the starting lineup where he proved to be a wonderful contributor. He was the definition of a "garbage goal" scorer which, in soccer, equates to hustle and awareness. The US will miss his presence on the field, but hopefully he will remain an integral part of the program.
vs. Ken vs. Ryu. Classic.
