Yes. The Latin being exempli gratia (for the sake - or purpose - of example) and id est (that is).

And I'm guilty..but not happily guilty. I've been much better about the use of the F word in the last few years...it really adds little to any conversation, and often takes away from it. F has it's place, and it's time, but F does not have it's place ALL of the time.

Uh-oh, I better not invite you to see some of my plays. They don't all drop f-bombs, but many of them do. Still, I got my favorite comment ever after last January's production of Heartbreak Hill which drops about 40 f-bombs in 10 minutes. I had warned my friend who came to see it about the language and she leans over afterwards and says, "None of those fucks was gratuitous."

It drives my wife absolutely bonkers when she hears someone, usually an athlete, use the word "disrespect" as an active verb. She goes completely nuts when she hears that.

When someone says "no pun intended" or "no offense" or something along those lines, 9 times out of 10, they're using it as an excuse to use a bad pun or say something offensive. If you REALLY don't intend a pun, but you see it coming, or you REALLY don't intend to offend somebody, than use your brain and say it differently. It's one thing if you see the pun or offensive comment after the fact. However, if you know you're about to say it, then rephrase rather than try to downplay it preemptively. That kind of annoys me, and it's kind of a cop out in my book. If you're gonna say it, and you KNOW you're gonna say it, OWN it, baby! ;)

Guess I can never say "I'm honored' ever again.

No one will ever beat that, pun wise, so we should retire puns forever. (And yes, it made me laugh. Best to go out on a high note.)
