Note to BD: If you want to beat me, wilson has the right strategy... score 5 bingos, take 3 or more of the big-scoring letters, dominate the triple word tiles, and don't give a flip about the hideous tile combos your opponent has.
Would someone PLEASE return my jugular? Wilson just ripped it out of my neck!

Re: Root for ME!!!! (To Beat Lavabe in Scrabble)
I have been trying that strategy for awhile. The only problem is it's you that has been implementing it. I almost never have letters with point values above 2 when I'm playing you, or I have all vowels, or I have all consonants. And the one time I actually got both the Q and the Z, I got them with about 5 tiles left in the bag. Not optimal.Lavabe wrote:Note to BD: If you want to beat me, wilson has the right strategy... score 5 bingos, take 3 or more of the big-scoring letters, dominate the triple word tiles, and don't give a flip about the hideous tile combos your opponent has.

Hmm. BD already challenged me to a game. Looks like we'll play two.

Along those lines, there is a new CTN Scrabble scoring record: 614.Lavabe wrote:Note to BD: If you want to beat me, wilson has the right strategy... score 5 bingos, take 3 or more of the big-scoring letters, dominate the triple word tiles, and don't give a flip about the hideous tile combos your opponent has.

Re: Root for ME!!!! (To Beat Lavabe in Scrabble)
Gotta love when "fez" on a triple word, for 58 points, is your sixth-highest scoring play.
When the aforementioned six highest-scoring plays total 485 points.
When you cover three of the four triple word spaces that get used (two with bingos and one with a Z), and successfully block your opponent off of the others.
When your margin of victory would qualify as a decent score in itself.
When you break a maddening losing streak in spectacular style.
When your opponent, still a formidable adversary, is gracious enough to let you finish off your epic game. Thanks, Lav (we need a cap-doffing smiley).
Part of me is tempted to retire from Scrabble now; there's just no way I'm topping this one (although that's what I said about my 571-pointer, about three weeks ago ).
I had thought 600+ was just a pipe dream, but surely 700 is (right?).

Re: Root for ME!!!! (To Beat Lavabe in Scrabble)
In all fairness, I DID say before the game that wilson is the champ, and deserves the title of the thread. When the mods changed the title, they tested the SCRABBLE karma... And the karma has spoken.
NOW, please change the thread title.

Re: Root for ME!!!! (To Beat Lavabe in Scrabble)
I'm sorry Lavabe, they changed the title at my request. I've already beaten wilson twice at Scrabble (pure luck both times ). But since it really bothers you, would a moderator please change the title to, oh, I don't know, how about The Scrabble Thread? I'm still willing to accept everyone's best wishes for a long coveted victory over Lavabe one of these days. I'm not greedy, I beat you once, I'm willing to go back to my role as a doormat.

Looks like we got a new name for the thread, although it wasn't me this time.Bostondevil wrote:I'm sorry Lavabe, they changed the title at my request. I think the title would fit well for me, though.

wilson thinks I'm talking smack. To reiterate, BD lifetime against wilson in Scrabble 2 - 11,000,000,000. But yeah, I won 2. So there.
BD's lifetime record against Lavabe 1 - 11,000,000,000
Poor Lavabe, he had me until that last word, a bingo for 81 points. Ahhhh, it's time. If only I drank .
