Cutcliffe is trying a new kicking combination....again.
Maggio will handle PAT's, Snyderwine will handle any field goals.

Considering Maggio's injury and continuing recovery, the duties could change a bit each week. Coach Cutcliffe and the staff take a great approach in being flexible and creative in dealing with such a situation.CameronBornAndBred wrote:Cutcliffe is trying a new kicking combination....again.

Re: DU vs KU
Okay, now I'm angry. I was all set to watch the game today at noon, but I turned on Versus on my Directv, and this is what I found:
"Versus is no longer available on this channel. Comcast, which owns Versus, has forced us to take down the channel because we will not submit to their unfair and outrageous demands. For more information, go to www.directv.com/versus.
Crap. I realize that there are two sides to every story, but my overall dealings with both Directv and Comcast would lead me to believe that Comcast is more in the wrong in this than Directv is.

O joyous day! I just discovered that the game is televised here on VS. (Charter channel 45). I can record while I'm at the balloon race. It appears that this approach brings good karma to the football team, as I recorded the Army game during choir retreat and watched later. We all know how that turned out. GO DEVILS!

Re: DU vs KU
I'll be putting pictures up on Facebook from the game. Not the outcome I was wanting, but I'm very proud of the team. Was sitting right at the corner of the stadium the team goes past to get to the visitors locker room. The highlight of the game for me today was a small thing that #83 Austin Kelly did on the way to the locker room after the game was over. Most of the team had gone past when a young boy made it to the edge of the stadium to try to high five the players. Most had already passed by and there was a security guard standing so that the players really didn't see him. A couple noticed him and gave him a high five. Kelly was the last player to go by and did notice him. He not only gave him a high five but also his wrist band. I was very impressed that, as disappointed as he must have been with the outcome, he took the time to do something so simple to brighten a young boy's day.
I was very proud to be in the stands to root for our Devils today. Thank you team for representing the University so well.

Re: DU vs KU
The game was frustrating not only for the fans, but also for the players. The team was excited and ready to go and started well, but Kansas was just too much.
VO apparently re-injured himself the other day in practice and then tweaked his knee again before the game.
Duke will rebound from this loss, but I would not expect to see VO or some of the other "banged up guys" next week. Maybe a week of rehab will prove to be a good thing for Duke.
GO DUKE! BEAT CENTRAL!

Re: DU vs KU
Your insights from being there are greatly appreciated, Dukediv2012. There's nothing like eye witness reports to help know what's really going on.
Please pass on whenever you think it's appropriate: the fans and alums appreciate the great effort this team is making this year. Those who follow the execution closely see crisper tackles and blocks and better routes run with more solid catches than was the case before they started working with Coach Cutcliffe and his staff. Their work is going to paying off! I believe there is at least one major upset possible during this tough year of building.
When the breakthrough happens, it will be time to present 39 roses .... a symbol of the connection to the original Iron Dukes.

Re: DU vs KU
This was disappointing, not because we lost but because we failed to stop them (490 yards) and failed to finish on so many occasions. After looking at the stats, you think we shoulda put more points on the board with ~390 yards and ~31 minutes of possession and ~ 100 yards rushing and a 60% completion rate and no lost fumbles. The INT Thad tossed for a 48 yard TD early in the 3Q was an absolute killer. So was his overthrow of a wide open Varner in the end zone. Our 3rd down conversion rate was awful, their 3rd down conversion rate was highly successful and we just gave up too many big plays of 30-40+ yards to sustain their drives. Take away a couple bad plays and it's about 37-21 and I think many of us woulda been happy with that. I still don't have a favorite QB yet as both guys had their good and bad moments but we sure do need an OL, both for them and for some semblance of a running game.

Re: DU vs KU
I was frustrated with some of the play calling. I am frustrated by play calling in most sports and most games at some point, but when you have the balls to go for a touchdown on 4th and 2 (successfully), and then later on when it's 2cnd and long, and then 3rd and long, and you run once and throw a 4 yard pass, I'm left scratching my head. We had a few "and longs" that the plays called were short passes or runs. Drives me nuts, it must be something in the gatorade Duke serves its coaches.

I still think the ghosts of Franks and Roof inhabit the locker rooms and WW sometimes. I agree with you for the most part there.CameronBornAndBred wrote:I was frustrated with some of the play calling. ...most important stat reveal of the day...and from other days previous. These Devils have a potent passing attack, even with Thad's missed TD toss, but until it's balanced by the ability to run the ball, they are going to be far too predictable on offense.devildeac wrote:... but we sure do need an OL, both for them and for some semblance of a running game.

Re: DU vs KU
My take on this also is that we have some speed and talent at RB but they are young and need that experienced OL. Hollingsworth, Williams, Varner, Vernon and a few others aren't all WR, or are they? I'm guessing Desmond Scott, the burner from one of the Derm HS is taking a 'shirt this year. He's the guy who had committed to Ruggers (sic) and then hat Cut "change" his mind. I'm thinkin' he was a 4 star prospect, IIRC.captmojo wrote:...most important stat reveal of the day...and from other days previous.
