1955: Disneyland, one of my favorite places in the world, opens to much fanfare on July 17.
In the wake of a rather disastrous debut, however, the company begins to refer to July 17 as "Dedication Day" and July 18 as the true opening day, with some waffling persisting to the present.

And 1977, the year one of my favorite movies of all time, which I watched a few days ago on DVD, came out, Star Wars Ep IV: A New Hope.

Hey, 1992, good year. I was a junior in high school just starting to look into colleges. 2nd national championship for Coach K.

1994-1995 was my second year at Duke. Not an auspicious year for Duke Basketball, but it wasn't bad for Duke football, with the Hall of Fame Bowl finish.
