Carolina Beach Recommendations
Kelly and I are headed to Carolina Beach for the Labor Day weekend. Can anyone recommend restaurants, places to go, things to see? We're planning on a day at the beach to relax and do nothing, but would also like to have a nice dinner somewhere. Are there any dog-friendly beaches/parks?
Any advice would be welcome.

There's a great little hot dog joint on Front St. in Wilmington (not quite Carolina Beach, but easily accessible and/or on the way) called the Trolley Stop. Whatever you do, though, do not steal the giant dual-purpose sign/menu off the wall outside. That was one pledge shenanigan that didn't go over very well...

DAMN! I was just telling Kelly that we should get into some serious shenanigans while on vacation. Oh well, maybe next time.wilson wrote:There's a great little hot dog joint on Front St. in Wilmington (not quite Carolina Beach, but easily accessible and/or on the way) called the Trolley Stop. I think you'll enjoy the variety of restaurants in Wilmington and even some on Wrightsville Beach. I love one on Wrightsville (it's gone by several names over the years) that's right on the Inland Waterway. (Not the Bridgetender... though many people like it) You have to go over the bridge to get to it... I've enjoyed the seafood at Hieronymus on Market St. They catch their own seafood.... market on the same side of the street as the Bridgetender. http://us.lrd.yahoo.com/_ylt=Ao.PMSaHhn ... afood.com/ I think I remember reading that one of the owners used to be a pilot for American Airlines. Others make regular pilgrimages to King Neptune on Wrightsville.Miles wrote:DAMN! I was just telling Kelly that we should get into some serious shenanigans while on vacation. Hieronymous used to have a restaurant/market in Cary. So good to have fresh fish right up from Wilmington. Too bad they closed a few years ago.Devil in the Blue Dress wrote:I think you'll enjoy the variety of restaurants in Wilmington and even some on Wrightsville Beach. Yes, I enjoyed going there. Always a line, but always delicious. I think the son of the owners was the chef. The distance from their home base and some additions to the local restaurants proved to be too much. Alas!DukeUsul wrote: Hieronymous used to have a restaurant/market in Cary. There used to be, and may still be, an Italian restaurant at Carolina Beach called Mama Mia's. I liked their veal Oscar.
Too bad Trail's End (on Masonboro Sound Rd in Wilmington) closed several years ago. It was my favorite steak restaurant in the entire world. Last time I went there (about 3 years ago), the "building" was an empty lot. Today, a condo probably sits on the site

The Front Street Brewery downtown has a decent menu and some really good in-house brews.
[redacted] them and the horses they rode in on.
