Re: Moral Support Needed
Here's the great news. You are not a smoker! Unlike dieting, the very minute you quit you could start saying "I'm not a smoker." On the first day of a diet, you can't say "I"m thin." See the difference? So you have accomplished your mission already. Now just enjoy the fact that "You are not a smoker." You are not quitting....you have quit. Period.
You have won. Celebrate and enjoy the achievement.

Did you know that 106.7 is the Kathmandu Metropolitan City Government channel in Kathmandu?

Vibes for strength to you, Windsor. Sounds like day 8 is a rough one. Here's hoping day 9 is easier!

The Shirelles sang about this very phenomenon.... "Momma said there'd be days like this..."windsor wrote:Calling for an extra dose of vibes today - for some reason the cravings are very strong today!! Not sure what is up with THAT - eight days? Shouldn't they be going away not getting worse?
I remember have an occasional such craving even a year or two after quitting. It would seem to come out of the blue, but was probably prompted by something like a smell or taste. I'd just go through the mantra I'd used with the self hypnosis and keep moving on to other things.

Ooh I need your love babe,
Guess you know it's true.
Hope you need my love babe,
Just like I need you.
Hold me, love me, hold me, love me.
I ain't got nothin' but love babe,
Eight days a week.
Love you ev'ry day girl,
Always on my mind.
One thing I can say girl,
Love you all the time.
Hold me, love me, hold me, love me.
I ain't got nothin' but love girl,
Eight days a week.
Eight days a week
I love you.
Eight days a week
Is not enough to show I care.

Good morning, windsor.
Are you noticing any improvement on your breathing while you train your dogs on the agility course? I haven't heard much discussion about how that's changed.
Cheers,
Lavabe

In class Tuesday night I ran Jester and did not feel like a bass in the bottom of the boat when I was done. One of my students (an MD) noted that my color was 'much better' than it usually is when I finish. There was actually a point on the course where I didn't need to run, but I did anyway just to try something. I don't usually expend any more energy that absolutely necessary!
I've also noted a difference just in day to day stuff - my office is a five building complex in large circle - they buildings are connected by 'habitrails' so the gerbils...uh I mean people....can get from building to building without getting soaked. Those trails get very warm in humid this time of year and usually if I went from bldg 3 to bldg 1 (which I do often) I couldn't wait to get in the A/C so I could breath. It occured to me yesterday that the humidity was bothering me nearly as much.
Maybe if I get really brave I'll try this stairs (I'm on the 4th floor).
The next goal - every year the St Pete Times sponsors a slew of 'Turkey Trot Races' - 1 mile walk, a 5k race, 5k fun run and a 10k. The 5ks and the 10 k pass within a block of my house (I always go out and watch - I have a good friend that runs the 5 and 10 who lives an hour away, he always comes over the night before, we have dinner he stays at my house and then he is only 5 minutes from the race start at oh-dark-thirty.)
Anyway, I am thinking about doing the 5k fun run which I will probably WALK most of - I don't think my knees will hold up to the pounding of running on pavement for very long...and I need knees for agility....where there is actuall a very popular t-shirt that says "Top notch agility dog seeks handler with better knees"
The first few days of not smoking I coughed much more than usual...now I am hacking much much less!

Love this. It's gotta be cool to have so clear an indication to yourself of why you're doing this and what benefits it will have for your health and your life. Keep on chuggin', windsor!

Oh how cool...a training partner!
I'm figuring I will alternate dogs since they could always use the excercise...well two of them anyway - I will not ask an 11 year old black dog to walk 3.1 miles in the heat! Weather permitting I'm going to start tonight - I'll take the Tervuren along since he walks at a beautiful heel and won't be any bother. Hope I can find his vest so he can carry our water! He loves to carry the water!

I wouldn't start out at 3.1 miles tonight. Start slowly and build up. In fact, you may want to start with time versus distance.windsor wrote:TillyGalore wrote:Yay!!

I'll see if I can find a walking program on-line and send it to you. I've used these type programs in my running days to build up to whatever my goal was.

Re: Moral Support Needed
If you can find it that would be great...I wasn't actually going to do the whole 3.1.....because of the way the course is laid out it goes down Road A....across Road B and up Road C --- I live right off road A about half way down the 'real' course and there are plenty of cross streets connecting A and C - I figured I'd see how I felt and if I started to tire I would take on of the cross streets and head home.TillyGalore wrote:I wouldn't start out at 3.1 miles tonight.
