In actual election news, Tim Scott is looking to show he's a contender (at least in SC) with 140 endorsements from fellow politicians.
Sen. Tim Scott is rolling out endorsements from more than 140 current and former elected officials from his home state of South Carolina, aiming to make a show of force in the first-in-the-South presidential primary state.

The backing comes as Scott and other presidential contenders aim to carry on with their campaigns as much of the political world parses the indictment of GOP front-runner Donald Trump on dozens of federal charges.

The lawyers are wising up.
Donald Trump failed to find a local lawyer willing to represent him for his arraignment at Miami federal court despite scrambling to interview candidates on Monday, according to reports.

Mr Trump, who turns 77 on Wednesday, allegedly spent hours trying to find Florida legal representation after flying into the state from his Bedminster golf course in New Jersey.

But despite his efforts, Mr Trump is expected to be represented by two of his usual lawyers, former federal prosecutor Todd Blanche and former Florida solicitor general Chris Kise, sources told The Guardian.

The former president has also failed to find a specialist national security lawyer to help with the Espionage Act charges.

You would have to be crazy to take that representation.

I'm sure he'll get someone that wants his/her 15 minutes, but it will be a bargain basement find. I doubt very much that anyone with a respected reputation to protect will take the job.

Watching CNN's coverage of the arraignment for a few minutes. I had to stop. How does such an obvious asshole engender enough support to draw even a small crowd of supporters outside a fucking federal courthouse? He is transparently a bastard, a thief, and a liar. It makes me ashamed of my country and sick to my stomach.

Sorry, I just had to vent somewhere, and there are very few places where that's allowed.

I'm more disgusted by those in office that are standing up for him, not the general populace. I missed who it is, but one GOP senator has stated that because of the charges, he will now block every single Biden judicial nominee. The gross abuse of the justice system, born under the false pretense of being a protest of "gross abuse of the justice system" is more than mind boggling; it's flat out disgusting. If it's not criminal, it should be. X(

They have all sold their souls to the devil. I struggle with this as a large part of the reason why they are doing this is that this is what the voters want. So it is really sad that so many people are OK with this. One would think that elected officials will rise above it, but I guess someone has to do the job.

At least the lawyers are getting paid for it. I would tell him $10k an hour with a $500k upfront payment. And as a lawyer I would make sure the agreement is perfect can't be clawed back in any way. I still wouldn't do this, but bend the guy over and make him pay.

Trump walked into a restaurant in Miami, shouted "Food for everyone" then walked out without paying. The only thing more Trump-esque would have been for him to make them pay for his meal as well. Hopefully some of the people who thought he was buying them a meal end up on his jury.

"Our bad, you actually DO need to get out and vote early."
After years of deriding early and mail-in voting, claiming they lead to fraud and help Democrats to steal elections, top Republicans are changing their position, leading to a split in the party as the 2024 election approaches.

The converts atop the party warn that they must adapt or risk further electoral setbacks, especially in key states where early and mail balloting are in place. However, the entrenched foes within Republicans’ election-denier ranks could muddle the party message on voting.

Not to be too paranoid, but I am a bit concerned that they are going to do all of the shenanigans they are falsely accusing the Democrats of. Since they deeply believe that the Dems are doing all of these horrible things, they want to even the playing field. Then if Democrats complain, they will say "you told us to stop complaining about election fraud. Why don't you do the same thing?"

Yeah, America!

Lauren Boebert is forcing a House vote on Biden's impeachment. In response, Kevin McCarthy asks...
“What majority do we want to be,” McCarthy asked his conference, according to a source in the room “Give it right back in two years or hold it for a decade and make real change?”
What majority do we want to be? Really? That group is exactly who they want to be, good luck in changing that dynamic anytime soon.

Trump' is now resorting to begging Congress to save him. (IN ALL CAPS)
“CONGRESS, PLEASE INVESTIGATE THE POLITICAL WITCH HUNTS AGAINST ME CURRENTLY BEING BROUGHT BY THE CORRUPT DOJ AND FBI, WHO ARE TOTALLY OUT OF CONTROL,” Trump wrote Thursday morning.
https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-melts- ... 54634.html

He's scared shitless; he knows he's screwed. (Especially since by now he's seen and heard all of the discovery evidence against him that was presented to the grand jury.) It's amazing that of all the charges that could have come against him, the most damning and convictable was so easily avoidable.

“When woke overtakes our criminal justice system — like it has in San Francisco, like it has in Los Angeles — the average person becomes less safe in their communities as a result,” said DeSantis, who vowed to leave “woke ideology in the dustbin of history.”

“Don’t tell me it doesn’t affect people’s lives. I was just in San Francisco. I saw — in 20 minutes on the ground — people defecating on the sidewalk. I saw people using fentanyl. I saw people smoking crack right there in the open, right there on the street. It was a civilization in decay.”
Where the hell did his entourage take him walking? That's a stroll that would even make Trump jealous with all the societal decay he witnessed in a mere 20 minutes.

I thought Donald Trump was going to solve all of the world's problems during his four years in office. Why didn't he take care of this? He want on and on about how horrible Obamacare is yet even when he controlled congress he did nothing. These people love to complain but don't have any solutions. Yet Americans are dumb enough to listen to them.

By the way, he isn't totally wrong about San Francisco - I haven't been in a while but apparently it is quite a mess. But I agree that it is highly likely that he saw any of this and I doubt he has much of a solution - he was probably being shuttled around from $10 million home to $10 million home for fund raisers.

Can someone with more legal knowledge than me provide some rationale? I’m not a lawyer, nor do I play one on TV, but I’d think the reason for the request was obvious. I don’t even understand how Judge Cannon is still on the bench at this point.

Not a lawyer either, but from what I've read and heard, this was the right call to make. In fact, it seems like the only person that didn't want her releasing the names under seal is Jack Smith; every news outlet on the planet was making motions to have the seal broken.
Remember, the DOJ already gave Trump and his team all of the discovery evidence, so even if the seal was maintained, he already knows everyone that's on that list. He's under mandate not to discuss about it, nor talk to them, but the seal isn't protecting anyone on it from him and his team.
Aside from that, even though the names might be known, what they've said is not, and won't be until trial unless they decide to talk to someone about what they said.

I have not read her order so hard to say, other than the court has to strike a balance between the relative rights of the parties, witnesses, and the public. I don’t see this ruling as pro-Trump, he already knows the list.

The interesting ruling to come is on the next tentative trial date. And a pre-trial hearing set for a few weeks from now. We should get a better read of the judge’s trial plans then.

This is pretty cool
Yusef Salaam, an exonerated member of the “Central Park Five,” believes everything in his life has happened for a reason. More than two decades after spending the majority of his teenage years behind bars for a crime he never committed, Salaam declared victory Wednesday in a Democratic primary race for a New York City Council seat in Harlem.

I Am Not A Lawyer, and now neither is Lin Wood.
LIN WOOD, A former member of Donald Trump’s legal team and one of the foremost pushers of the lie that the 2020 election was rigged, has permanently retired from practicing law.
...
“I hereby request that I be permitted to transfer to Retired Status effectively immediately,” he wrote in a letter filed to the State Bar of Georgia on Tuesday. “I further understand and acknowledge that if granted Retired Status I am prohibited from practicing law in this State and in any other state or jurisdiction and that I may not apply for readmission.”
