Good morning! I’m stuck at home, waiting for the water company to come and install a new water meter. Enjoying a leisurely cup of coffee in my backyard while it’s cool outside.

AD, I hope you didn’t ask for a new water meter because “your bill was too high!” The old mechanical “nutating disk” meters always read LOW because of wear and tear. The new meter will count every gallon and your bill will go UP. It’ll be more accurate in the city’s favor, not yours.

Um, no. The water company insisted. I got a nasty gram saying they’d shut off my water unless I let them install the new meter. The time frame they gave me was ALL DAY. Fortunately, the technician came pretty early. They may be concerned that my water usage looks low, but it is. They may be in for a surprise. Last year, I bought a new front load washer that uses less water.
