Re: Ymm, Beer!
From last week:
Blink of an Eye-Hardywood Park Craft Brewery
Near and dear to my heart, aka local.
Credit-wbmcards88 from the 2022 Family Tree warehouse sale; $15, a steal; not enough thank yous out there for this one!!
Style-"…The past 10 years have gone by in a “Blink of An Eye” -There is no better way to exemplify the last 10 years of Hardywood’s barrel program than to make the ultimate Misfits blend. A rich and full-bodied beer with a silky mouthfeel. Aromatic notes of molasses, toffee, tootsie roll, and dark chocolate. Full flavors of dark fruit, chocolate covered cherries and tobacco linger with a smooth and warming finish.
The Blend:
32 month aged Foolery 40%
9 month aged Trickery 20%
21 month aged Trickery 10%
29 month aged Ruse 10%
5 month aged Hoax 10%
9 month aged Puffery: 10%…
Format-caged and corked 750 ml bottle
Stemware-2018 Hardywood GBS Complete Set tumbler
Appearance-extremely dark and viscous; mighta been 3 bubbles for the “head”
Nose-beyond alluring
Mouthfeel-warm, very gooey fudge
Tastes-dark chocolate, bourbon, raisins, dates, figs, dried cherries, more bourbon, black strap molasses, char, dark toffee; is that enough?
Adjuncts-not sure I could list all the usual suspects
IBU-probably mid 50s
ABV-13.7%; very dangerous
Overall impression-a stunning blend of their usual GBS imperial milk stout, long boil barleywine, Cru and maybe another beer or three from their cellars; wbmcards88 is free to correct any mistakes in this post, too
Ymm, Beer rating-top shelf cat 3; a truly fantastic cornucopia of brews
Plus, with names of brews like Ruse, Trickery, Puffery and especially Hoax, why wouldn’t I be reminded of, nah, never mind:

Re: Ymm, Beer!
More ketchup from Saturday:
Appanator (draft)-Booneshine Brewing
Local? Yep, from the brewery
Credti-fuse; thanks!!
Style-doppelbock
Format-crowler; shared several ways
Stemware-small Ommegang pilsner taster
Appearance-pale bronze; small, offwhite head
Nose-light caramel syrup
Mouthfeel-soft
Tastes-light caramel, flowers, lightly toasted wheat bread
IBU-30 (guess)
ABV-7.8%
Overall impression-good brew for the style
Ymm, Beer rating-high cat 2; perhaps a bit more “body” raises it to cat 3; very pleasant with bratwurst and cheeseburger sandwiches off the grill; I was too full to have a hot dog sandwich after a brat and a burger but perhaps I shoulda had a plain hot dot and called it just that, a hot dog

Re: Ymm, Beer!
Exposure-Nightmare Brewing Company
Not local
Credit-RJ, who opened 2 of them, at least ; thanks!!
Style-TIPA, probably a NETIPA
Format-pint can, or two, shared several ways
Appearance-slightly cloudy, amberish yellow; small, foamy topping
Nose-citrus and pine
Mouthfeel-mildly bracing
Tastes-grapefruit, orange, resin, hint of caramel, pith
Hops-Cryo Mosaic and Citra
IBU-“no IBU” but mama didn’t raise no dummy and a TIPA will have some bite so probably 50s
ABV-10.1%
Overall impression-really potent stuff here but pretty balanced and I enjoyed it quite a bit
Ymm, Beer rating-low to middle cat 3; mighta been a bit higher but palate fatigue setting in as this was #8 sample, IIRC.

Re: Ymm, Beer!
Next to last Saturday sample from the 10 beer, 8 hour flight:
Cherry from the Monastery (draft)-Booneshine Brewing Company
As local as you can get.
Credit-fuse who procured this “on their journey” to the mountain; thanks for sharing!!
Style-fruited Belgian style stout, imperial style
Format-crowler, shared many ways with RJ only opening one of these…
Stemware-continuing my 2 ounce samples (x2)
Appearance-dark ruby brown; modest, light tannish pinkish foam
Nose-cherries and milk chocolate
Mouthfeel-soft and sweet
Tastes-dark cherry jam, milk chocolate, dark caramel and a hint of sour which was a bit dissonant until one realizes Belgian style stouts are different than the US versions
Adjuncts-cherries in some form and I’d suspect some dark candi sugar, too
IBU-50s?
ABV-8.8%, IIRC
Overall impression-very interesting brew that made a nice prelude to dessert
Ymm, Beer rating-low cat 3; would pair nicely with some dark pastry desserts along with the wonderful lemon pound cake, lemon curd and think and decadent raspberry sauce that was actually served

Appearance-medium to dark brown; generous tan head

Re: Ymm, Beer!
Evaporating rapidly as I type:
Bourbon Cherry Cordial Stout-Hardywood Park Craft Brewery
Local indeed
Credit-a trader from nrrrrvous from his Family Tree #2 box, IIRC: thanks!!
Style-BBA blended and adjuncted imperial stout and porter
Format-12 ounce stubbie
Secret freshness code-buncha letters and numbers on base of bottle but who cares?
Tumblerware-yep, 2018 GBS Complete Set cutie pie
Appearance-rather dark brown; 1.5 finger head
Nose-booze, dark chocolate and cherry juice
Mouthfeel-“Take Me Home Tonight”
Tastes-bourbon, brandy, cherry jam, dark chocolate, wood, char, dark caramel
Barrels-1) A. Smith Bowman bourbon for 13 months and RIS brewed on 3/18/21; 2) Heaven Hill bourbon for 4 months and imperial porter brewed on11/29/21 (but the stat sheet claims “brandy barrel,” too (dafuq?)
Adjuncts-“sweet cherry puree” at 20 lbs/bbl
IBU-probably low 18 (I’d have guessed high 40s)
ABV-13%
Overall impression-a bit thin but not unexpected given the porter/stout blend and that’s a very minor observation; otherwise, this was a wonder night cap and paired well with some pecan chocolate chip cookie dough
Ymm, Beer rating-mid cat 3; thinking I liked this a shade more than the RVA brew crew but I’m a huge fan of chocolate covered cherries and/or Black Forest cake so I’d buy/order a couple 4 baggers of this at a future warehouse sale

Style-double fruited version of their Never Again sour gose
Format-pint can, shared not quite equally

Ymm, Beer rating-mid cat 3; amazing concoction
