District 9

Post by CameronBornAndBred » August 14th, 2009, 8:49 am

Is anyone going to see this? I'm really looking forward to it, but I'm not sure when we will get to go. Post your thoughts here, but announce any spoilers.
It's way up there on the Tomatometer, 94% fresh, noted most of all for it's originality. That's hard to come by in sci-fi these days.

Dad and I are going to see this one. I'm thinking of getting the deluxe tickets; leather seats, extra leg room, beer, wine.

Non-spoiler, but information about the movie:
Read up on District Six, Cape Town for the real-life inspiration for the movie.

Session 9 was filmed where I currently live. A state mental hospital? Yep.

Okay, District 9 was a little disappointing to me...
You would think that a movie heavily connected with Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings, King Kong) would be amazing. Alas, Neill Blomkemp (or however you spell his name) made a movie that was great on special effects, but the story and the way it was presented was confusing and not very appealing. I mean, if you want to see aliens get shot with ray guns in HD, this is the movie for you. If you want a decent storyline, this movie is probably not for you. I'm pretty sure there will be a sequel, which definitely has potential.

I'll probably go to see HP 6 in Imax tomorrow. Had to let the crowds clear out.

How does it compare to Plan 9 from Outer Space?

I wasn't familiar with Magic Hats 1-8, so didn't want to ask about #9.
