Woman in Black-Legend Brewing Company

Local for Nrrrrvous. Thanks!! A classic imperial/doppelbock which poured dark amber with a generous, light tan head, aromas of caramel and toasted bread and tastes to match with hints of dark, dried fruits. ABV 9.5% and a good pairing with almost anything pork/beef off the grill. The Germans set the standard but this was easily low cat 3 good.

From last PM, celebrating my last post OY:

Double Dark Chocolate Biggie S’Mores-Three Notch’d Brewing

Local for one of the RVA beer mules

Credit-Nrrrrvous; thanks, with a disclaimer (see below)
Style-flavored imperial stout
Format-pint can; very mishshapened at the top (ruh-roh)
Stemware-two snifters AND a large wine glass (keep reading)
Appearance-voluminous tan foam and a little dark brown liquid
Nose-dark chocolate cardboard
Mouthfeel-a bit “off” but still chocolatey
Tastes-semisweet chocolate, wet cardboard; graham crackers, marshmallows
Adjuncts-dark chocolate, dark chocolate, graham crackers and marshmallows
IBU-40
ABV-9.7%
Overall impression-ended up being drinkable after a disastrous start/pour
Ymm, Beer rating-mid cat 2 because it was oxidized based on the “outdented” can and the huuuuge amount of foam; Nrrrrvous thought his were outstanding and I’ll trust his judgment and would happily try another variant.

Maple Whiskey Double Barrel Dire Wolf-Wolf’s Ridge Brewing

Local when bought

Credit-our son (no, the poster fka accfan did not deliver this one :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:); thanks!!
Style-imperial stout that inhabited two different barrels for a total of >24 months :astonished:

Stemware-snifter
Appearance-20W50; no head
Nose-booze, chocolate and syrup
Mouthfeel-viscous
Tastes-bourbon, dark chocolate, char, wood, bourbon, maple syrup, burnt caramel and vanilla
Adjuncts-none
Barrel aging-over 12 months in Watershed bourbon barrels, then another 12 months in Heaven Hill barrels that had been used to age organic maple syrup
IBU-70, IIRC from the standard stats on their platform/core Dire Wolf
ABV-10.8% but drank like 14%+
Overall impression-an absolutely amazing creation
Ymm, Beer rating-cat 3.99; world class

IBU-40
ABV-11.5% (good gracious!!)
Overall impression-I liked the BBA version better than this one as the rye was a bit dissonant with the other flavors; I do like rye however as evidenced by my adoration of Boulevard’s Rye-on-Rye
Ymm, Beer rating-upper cat 2 (or low cat 3 based on creativity and adventure)
