According to news first reported by Jeff Goodman of Stadium, Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski will retire after the end of the 2021-22 season.

The leading candidate to replace him is assistant and former player Jon Scheyer, per Goodman.
I'm surprised (not shocked) that Scheyer is the early front runner.

(Edit, changed title to reflect Scheyer's job now no longer a guessing game.)

Duke talked to outside candidates about replacing Krzyzewski, including Harvard coach Tommy Amaker, sources told ESPN. Scheyer, however, was the lead recruiter on such stars as Jayson Tatum and Zion Williamson and is Duke's choice to replace Coach K, sources said.

Interesting.

I’ve managed to go from being shocked and saddened to having an attitude of gratitude. I’m so thankful that we’ve had Coach K for 42 years and am excited to see what Jon Scheyer can accomplish.

My current boss, a highly respected scientist, was diagnosed with some flavor of brain cancer last year. He has designated the senior person in his lab as his replacement and is transitioning the lab to him. They have had long conversations about the history of the lab and the significant findings. Recently, the three of us had a conversation about our current NIH grant. We have to submit as a new application with the lab heir apparent as the PI and me as a Co-I. The tone of the meeting was, “I may not be here when this grant is submitted, so I want us to talk about your planned strategy.” So, I often find myself grateful that he’s still here and in awe of the amazing way in which he is handling things. It takes an amazing strength of character, and Coach K also has that in spades. Although Coach K is not ill, I can totally see him behaving in a similar fashion with Jon Scheyer. I will be very interested in watching how the transition takes place.

So do we know the question, yet? My main takeaway from the press conference was how upbeat and positive Coach K was. I'm truly happy for him. He looked worn down by the whole COVID/Johnson/performance grind last season. I expect something completely different this upcoming season.

Random question. Does anyone else remember hearing that Scheyer was the best coach at K Academy, and that everyone wanted to be on his team?
