I think you overestimate him, to be honest. The explanation I've seen that actually fits Trump's behavior the best is that he simply doesn't care what the truth is. He doesn't believe the things he says and he doesn't disbelieve them. It just doesn't matter to him at all. So from that point of view, I suppose he is venal, but not in any meaningful way. He can be convinced to say anything, because it doesn't matter what is correct. It's like paying a blind man to wear a different colored suit, except Trump doesn't even have to change clothes.

Caputo has snapped. He's the assistant secretary of public affairs at the Department of Health and Human Services.

Hopefully I won't get capped OY for posting on the topic. I did couch it in horse race, but dang. That's some bad stuff there, and I'm guessing the administration doesn't even fidget at having a completely looney tune in it's midst.
I retract the prior sentence. Looney Tunes are at least funny.

Re: Trump Vs Biden --- The Election Thread
Well put. Trump lives in a world with his own code of values (or lack thereof). Psychiatrists commit not to diagnose people they have never met, but they are having a field day figuring out all of the diseases Trump suffers from. It is truly scary. And what is equally scary is that tens of millions of Americans blindly follow him and think that it is OK for someone this mentally ill to lead our country. And because he has no morals, he will do whatever it takes to win in November, and he doesn't care if he takes this country down with him. He is a man who thrives in chaos and though COVID has generally hurt him, it has also created just the type of chaos that he likes.Phredd3 wrote: ↑September 14th, 2020, 1:48 pmI think you overestimate him, to be honest. Re: Trump Vs Biden --- The Election Thread
And I'm going to contradict myself a little bit after watching a bit of CNN this morning. Trump clearly respects the facts about coronavirus, at least as the pertain to him. This was clearly shown in a great picture of his rally that CNN was showing. It was a crowded room of supporters in Maga hats crammed in with no distance. At the head table, there was a group of about four people on the left, seated close together, and a group of about four people on the right, seated close together. In the middle, separated from the left and right rows by maybe 6-8 feet, sat Trump, all alone. That's at the same table.
He clearly wants nothing to do with COVID himself, but it seems to be OK, even desirable, for everyone else. The rank hypocrisy was stunning.
I searched for the picture online, but couldn't find it.

Just passed 200,000 dead in the U.S. on worldometers. The "greatest country on Earth" accounts for 21% of the COVID deaths.
How can anyone vote for this piece of shit?
(I really try not to swear too much, but am enjoying the freedom on this board to let it fly in regards to you-know-who)

Re: Trump Vs Biden --- The Election Thread
So Trump held a town hall tonight. Apparently it didn't go so well.
Edit...ahhhh, so the posts that Furniture shared are from said town hall.
I expect that event to get a good roasting in the press today. Or in normal times, it would anyway. Now it has to fit in between stories of west coast fires, Hurricane Sally, and whatever other insanity Trump comes up with in the next few hours.
https://www.cnn.com/2020/09/16/politics ... index.htmlTrump appeared at an ABC News town hall in Philadelphia, and peppered a socially distanced audience with the rhetoric and talking points that delight his loyal base. But if his goal was to satisfy relatively small groups of voters who polls show haven't yet made up their mind, the President appeared to fall short and rarely addressed the substance of questions about his handling of the coronavirus pandemic, race relations and health care.

Re: Trump Vs Biden --- The Election Thread
I have to share a report from a Facebook friend's post. She shared the story about how Trump blamed Biden, who isn't POTUS, for not instituting a national mask mandate. The stupidity of that is of course amusing in its own right.
BUT one commenter says "Hold my beer"!

I shit you not. This person is going to vote in this election.Biden is a senator so he could have brought a bill before Congress for a vote and if passed everyone would have to wear them do yes he could have.

He loves the uneducated. I could post the video of him saying it but I know y'all have seen it. And they're so stupid they don't even get that he's mocking them.CameronBornAndBred wrote: ↑September 16th, 2020, 7:09 pmI have to share a report from a Facebook friend's post. But it's all going to work out. Rasmussen has Trump at +6 approval. It's a runaway! (The average of the other polls is about -14...but at least we know where Trump's $800,000,000 has gone)

This is beyond disgusting. I have some fear of Ds in complete control, but nothing, NOTHING, could be worse than these Rs.

Re: Trump Vs Biden --- The Election Thread
Anyone watch Biden's town hall tonight? I lunched and didn't realize it was on til there were only about 15 minutes left. He was good in the final two questions that I saw. (And to Trump's dismay, he was still standing on his feet.)

I watched. I actually think he went on a bit too much in answering his last question but overall I thought he was pretty strong. Very forceful in his opinions on Trump. The debates are going to be VERY interesting.

Re: Trump Vs Biden --- The Election Thread
Trump will likely get one wish out of the debates. "Highest Ratings Ever!"
Of course that may mean the most people in history watch him stumble against "Sleepy Joe". Less than two weeks away.

Sure, let's just tear apart the country a little more. Why not?
