The first time I ever saw Braveheart was in Scotland, the same day I did the deluxe tour of Stirling Castle (perhaps the #1 recurring site of clashes during the Scottish wars for independence in the 13th and 14th centuries). It was flippin' awesome.

Fair enough. I like it a good bit, but I do think it's somewhat overrated.

If you're going to make me watch a medieval war picture, I'd rather rewatch Henry V, the Kenneth Brannagh version. The Olivier version is a bit too rah-rah.

1415: English longbowmen under Henry V play a pivotal role in the defeat of the considerably larger French army at the Battle of Agincourt. The battle marked a turning point in Henry V's Hundred Years' War campaign, although his field and diplomatic victories did not survive the missteps of his successors.

He died too young. The agreement after the victory was that Henry was next in line to be King of France. But he didn't even outlive the current king. And he left an infant son. Too bad. No infant son his rather capable brother the Duke of Gloucester would have inherited, instead decades of strife. (And eventually the Wars of the Roses.)
