I had this beer at Dugan's Pub in Brevard on Thursday evening. Ymm, Beer!

Brevard Brewing Co. is a brewery in Brevard, NC, where Jon and I attended a wedding this weekend. Oktoberfest is Brevard Brewing Co.'s annual tribute to the Munich seasonal brew. This beer was malty and robust, and a perfect way to celebrate the pending nuptials of our friends. This Märzen style beer had an ABV of 5.8%.

This beer is truly local to Transylvania County. The brewery self-distributes in the Brevard area. Their product is not available here in the swamps of eastern N.C. I will definitely return to Brevard to taste this brew!

If you like that style, there are a number of NC breweries that produce good ones like Foothills, Old Mecklenberg Brewing and even Duck-Rabbit in a neighboring zip code with their Marzen beer.

Framboise-Lindemans

Style-raspberry lambic ale
Appearance-a brilliant, opaque reddish/purple with a bubbly head
Nose-raspberry beret, err, puree
Mouthfeel-tingly
Taste-pure raspberry juice with a bit of a pucker
IBUs-who cares (I'll guess 10)
ABV-2.5% (IIRC)
Overall impression-world class; maybe the original (?); but, I still like the New Glarus Raspberry Tart better
Ymm, Beer rating-easily fuse cat 3; worth seeking out if you've never had this before; they also brew a Kriek (excellent) and Peche (never tasted but maybe GT game?)

Style-BBA tripel
Appearance-golden amber; small, fizzy head
Nose-Belgian candi sugar; orange liqueur; bourbon
Mouthfeel-bubbly
Tastes-above plus coriander (maybe), orange rind, light brown sugar, prominent bourbon warmth (not harsh), toasted coconut
IBUs-30ish
ABV-11.4% and dangerous
Overall impression-world class; a small notch above the 12 ounce formats
Ymm, Beer rating-another fuse cat 3; if you've never had this, buy a 750 ml bottle AND a 4 pack of the 12 ounce bottles and compare among several tasters

Nose-raspberry jam, vinegar, faint bourbon
Mouthfeel-tart/sour
Tastes-raspberry puree, Sour Patch dark berry candy, dark chocolate, cherry cider vinegar with bourbon late as it warmed a bit
IBUs-shrugs
ABV-9.666% (now *that* # I can't forget)
Overall impression-world class; not cheep but worth a bottle to share with friends

Black OPS 2015-Brooklyn Brewery

Format-corked and caged 750 ml bottle (reportedly)
Style-BBA imperial stout (secret)
Appearance-invisible; this beer does not exist according to the label which none of us could read in the twilight after multiple samples
Nose-dark chocolate and bourbon
Mouthfeel-smoother than a JJ Redick jumper
Tastes-dark chocolate fudge, toasted coconut, black strap molasses, wood, bourbon and lots of it
IBUs-probably 60 based on the style
ABV-11.5%
Overall impression-Outstanding combination of BBA and a traditional imperial stout
Ymm, Beer rating-fuse cat 3; good luck finding it as it appears to be discontinued, but, if you do, buy one for now and another for aging

Mouthfeel-silky; viscous

Overall impression-outstanding execution of a complex concoction
Ymm, Beer rating-fuse cat 3 easily; I'd seek this one out and buy a 4 pack and drink one every 6 months to see how it aged

Overall impression-this shoulda been tasted early and not rushed as fused mentioned yesterday
Ymm Beer rating-fuse cat 2, upper tier; may well have been a cat 3 after reading the description on Untappd:

"In late 2016, we came across some Gala apples grown in North Texas and decided to give them a try. We crushed 250 pounds and re-fermented the juice and pulp with a farmhouse ale brewed with well water, Texas-grown barley, rolled oats, honey malt, Golding hops, and a touch of chamomile. To our surprise, there was little to no noticeable sulfur production during this process. After refermentation, we sent the beer to freshly emptied Muscat wine barrels for long-term ageing!

This past spring, we emptied Correlation out of the Muscat wine barrels, and naturally refermented it in bottles and kegs. Our head brewer AVERIE SWANSON notes, “The beer is light, bright and spritzy, and presents with soft vanilla and some perceivable apple sweetness.”

I'd take a mulligan on this one any time. Apologies for not fully appreciating. Recalling the conversation:

Style-triple fruited imperial gose (although my Duke math skillz tell me apricot + passion fruit=double fruited (no third suspect found on-line)
Stemware-large Ommegang tulip
Appearance-(hint) it don't look like beer; apricot/carrot smoothie with some serious chunk and a head almost as thick as the beer
Nose-apricot, passion fruit (I guess), papaya, pineapple
Mouthfeel-pulpy; thick/viscous; "I coulda had a V8!"
Tastes-same as the nose with some tart/sour tropical juices
IBUs-10ish?
ABV-11% (WTH? for a gose??)
Overall impression-I thought this was a fantastic selection, even at $6.50 for my share of the quartet;
Ymm, Beer rating-fuse cat 3, though I could see a downgrade to cat 2 if you think "it don't look, smell or taste like a beer!"

Veil's explanation from Untapped: "cosmic Imperial Gose in collaboration with Omnipollo. Each iteration of Tefnut features a different fruit treatment. We put our heads together with Omnipollo to reimagine what a fruit beer can be via new processes and fruit volumes."

Appearance-slightly hazy orange-yellow with a moderate, foamy, clingy head
Nose-tangerine; that is all
Mouthfeel-modest bite, then juicy pith and rind; grapefruit (not added)
Adjuncts-whole tangerines (); pineapple (which they freely admit on a tl;dr back "label" that it ain't much pineapple)
IBUs-WAG of 60
ABV-7.3%
Overall impression-very good IPA from folks who have brewed them for years
Ymm, Beer rating-solid cat 2; worth a 12 pack to sip/share/trade

IPA-Nebraska Brewing Company

Not worth more than a couple/three sentences for this one. Not quite Ycch, Beer or a drain pour but not very good. Might be outdated from 03/15/19. Too much pine, resin and soap. Traded with a neighbor whose wife gave him a sampler of the month club for his birthday earlier this year. Easily cat 1.

Gussenbrau-Bond Brothers Brewing Company

Half pint pour at a private dessert event tonight that included dinner leftovers if we desired. Overall, a well done German style pilsner with a straw yellow color, small off-white head, floral aromas and matching Euro hops floral bitterness with very light brown sugar tastes. IBUs at top normal for the style at 45 and the ABV was 5.2%. Not a good pairing with peach cobbler but a quality, stand-alone brew. Solid cat 2. Never anything bad from BBBC.

High Brau-Bond Brothers Brewing Company

Their rendition of an Octoberfest. Prost!

Light amber half pint pour with a small head, scents of toasted bread, light brown sugar with tastes that followed of wheat bread, mild earthy herbs and a few drops of honey (not added). IBUs were 25, about what I'd expect for the Octoberfest/marzen style with ABV at 5.8%. One of the better Octoberfests from recent weeks and years past. Solid cat 2.

I Like Your Passion, I like Your Fruit-Bond Brothers Brewing Company

Another half pint draft, this one labeled at our private bar and on their website tap list as a milkshake IPA, and on the electronic beer board as an IPA. I'll agree with the former. Mildly hazy yellow with hints of orange. Passion fruit dominant on the nares and tongue sensors. The bride's father thought grapefruit and there were some hints of that. Bitterness perception less than the 70 IBUs listed, likely muted by the lactose and vanilla added, too. ABV at 6%. Very sippable and a high cat 2. I'd have this again.

Overall impression-outstanding; my only nit to pick would be that at 6.7%, it's really a bock and not a doppelbock
