Microsoft Forced To Stop Selling Microsoft Word?!?
Microsoft has lost a patent infringement lawsuit and may have to stop selling Word in sixty days.

I expect them to do it rather quickly but this is the second time they've lost this case. The first time they were ordered to pay $200 million and now they've been ordered to pay an extra $90 million so that doesn't look good for any appeal they might launch.

Yeah, I've got that on my system and use it from time to time. I just found it interesting that Microsoft lost this case twice and might be forced to stop selling Word until things are sorted out.

I've run a variety of open source applications in parallel with their commercial counterparts. While I agree with the spirit of open source development, these implementations (Gimp, OpenOffice, scribus, inkscape, etc.) just don't match up very well, feature-for-feature. Sure there are smalls advantages here and there, but I hardly find them worth it.CameronBornAndBred wrote:Two words.

I have to think that when it comes down to it, Microsoft will pony up big bucks if they have to in order to keep selling Word.colchar wrote:CameronBornAndBred wrote:Two words.

My wife has been using OpenOffice on her Mac for sometime, and she's having ever increasing levels of frustration as it frequently hangs and crashes.

Software crashing is not the same as an operating system crashing. ;-)OZZIE4DUKE wrote:I thought Macs never crashed? :? :? :roll:DukeUsul wrote: I have to think that when it comes down to it, Microsoft will pony up big bucks if they have to in order to keep selling Word.
