Nobody's said anything about Home Alone. I suppose it's aimed at a particular audience, but I fucking love that movie. I can recite every single word.

Home Alone really was a great movie. However, I felt the franchise quickly ran out of steam. There's only so much of Macaulay Caulkin I can handle, especially in a wash, rinse, repeat role.

Does anyone else feel like Weird Science was Bill Paxton's best performance ever?!?

I agree about Home Alone. I'm afraid I can't agree with you on Bill Paxton though. I liked him in Twister. I was a BIG fan of his roles in Tombstone, Apollo 13, U-571, and Aliens. However, my FAVORITE role that Bill Paxton EVER played was the womanizing used car salesman in "True Lies". Who can beat lines like "the vette gets 'em wet", or when he pees his pants when he thinks they're gonna throw him off the bridge? He was great in Weird Science, I won't argue that. But I just loved him in True Lies.

Did you know there was a Weird Science TV show? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tz_KSjdav9Q&NR=1 Not 100% safe for work. It's not bad, but it's a little loud and he says some insulting stuff. The Chett from the show definitely has a Jim Carrey of Ace Ventura fame feel to him, even in the facial expressions.

For those missing it, here's a little trailer from the original: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tiKR7eVfxY

You guys take Bill Paxton way too seriously.
WIth the exception of Tombstone, where be could barely creep out of the performing shadows of Russell and Kilmer, he plays "grown up Chet" in Aliens and True Lies. I just couldn't believe his role in Apollo 13 (see performances in Weird Science, Aliens, and True Lies). There is only one (modern) sub movie worth watching; Das Boot.

Dude, he's a supporting actor in 90% of his roles. He didn't HAVE to creep out from under Russell's and Kilmer's shadows. His job was to complement them, not compete with them. What, you think Sam Elliot's role as Virgil was lessened by the fact that it was a supporting role? I thought both Sam and Bill did great jobs in their roles. The main players in the film are Wyatt and Doc. That's why they chose the actors they did for the roles. If they'd put Bill and Sam in those roles and Kurt and Val in the other, the film would have flopped. Bill and Sam knew their roles in that movie and played them perfectly. They were a HUGE part of the success of that movie, cause they knew they were supporters, and that's how they played it. They didn't TRY to shine, cause that wasn't their job.

And he plays a grown up Chett in True Lies? I can't think of two characters MORE different than those two roles. Can't agree with you there. Now, Aliens I can't argue with too much, but I still liked it. And I happened to like Apollo 13 and all the guys in their roles, though I haven't watched it in a few years, so I could be remembering wrong. And I preferred Hunt for Red October to Das Boot. Sorry, I just did.

I just happen to be a fan of his, that's all. He's a role player, sure, but he knows it and owns it.

I have no problem seeing an abusive, chauvinist, prick of an older brother grow up to be a lying, chauvinist used-car salesmen.

Well, yeah, I guess I can see that. However, he was a militaristic doof in Weird Science. I can't see him turning into the total wuss that he was in True Lies. But I certainly see the rest.

It's always the college-age, militaristic doofs that grow up to be douche bags in real life. :-)
